    Working while studying?
    Hey,

I will start studying PPS at Cambridge in October. Are there any former or current students who can share some experiences about working while studying? I'm especially interested in if and how much time there is to work during term breaks.

    Thanks very much

It depends how disciplined you are during term. If you're aiming for a 2.1 you could probably work all the way through holidays. Working during term time is probably a bad idea.

    And banned

OP: I can't really speak for first-year PPS since I switched from another subject, but in higher years you will have other things you would really be better off preparing over the holidays (I'm thinking of long essays and dissertations in particular) -- it doesn't necessarily stop you from doing work, but spending too much time on working might eat into that in a bad way.

Just my opinion (you can decide to abandon it, as I am gonna be a fresher like you as well :P) but think about the salary that you are going to earn when you graduate with a top-notch degree. I bet you would regret your time spending on part-time jobs, earning one-tenth the amount you would earn in one month salary.
