Can't find a foundation to match my skin tone!
So ever since I first started using foundation i've struggled to find a colour to match my skin always either being too pale or being orange! The one I use at the min is fine but it dries my skin out drastically =/

Today I went into Boots and asked the make up lady, she sat me in a chair in front of a mirror and removed my current make up then began applying different tones from several different brands. All of the pale colours like Porcelain were too pale for me and made my skin really white, she then applied the next shade and it was too dark. She resorted to giving me "nude" to try even though I think even that doesn't look great.

Does anyone know of any shops that have make up artists to help or anywhere I could go? Or any ideas of foundations I could try?

Have you considered buying high end foundations? You didn't specify what foundations you have bought but if you haven't tried high end it's worth a shot. Brands that I recommend would be NARS, Illamasqua and maybe Estee Lauder and even MAC if you're not super pale.

If you have a foundation already that is too dark for you Illamasqua sell a foundation that is pure white which I can only assume is used for lightening others .

Benefit do a tinted moisturiser type foundation that is great. It evens things out without being an all over colour.

You should really try Estee Lauder, more recently they have come up with tons more shades. From the darkest to the lightest. Right now they are doing a free 7 day sample trial!

I think it's pretty clear what you have to do...... You need a skin transplant

Most foundation swatches are compared to MAC's huge range of shades (e.g. NC25 which would mean Neutral Cool in shade 25) - so go to your nearest MAC counter and ask to get colour matched. You might want to take a look at their foundations as well, the quality is comparable to designer brands.

I tried Bourjois. It really sets well and looks flawless on. I think it was the 10 sleep effect one. The lightest shade will be too light, but the next one might be just right

Why not just mix both to get the colour inbetween, that's what I did with my estee lauder one and I thought it looked ok

Its useful to know if you're a warm or cool shade. If your veins look green then you are warm so would suit yellow undertones. If your veins are blue then you are cool so would suit red tones. There are exceptions where you have to mix shades but would only do this if you feel you have found your perfect shade as this can be pricey especially with high brands. MAC has both warm/cool shades NC being warm and NW being cool.

I find it a nightmare getting matched up in both drugstore and high end brands. Luckily I found Bourjois healthy mix which is good.

I think either temptalia or karla sugar do a foundation matcher which may help x

I use Max Factor Colour Adapt. The clue's in the name, haha, and it's only £10 and lasts nearly a year

I feel your pain! I'm quite pale and all the foundations at Boots were either too dark or too orange, so I went to Debenhams instead. So much more professional! I went to the Clarins counter first, and the woman was very helpful. They had a massive range of make-up and it only took a few minutes for her to find my perfect shade! The foundation is a bit pricey, but well worth it and doesn't look too orange or white at all!

Try a colour adapting one? MAC have one and it's really good, although a bit pricey.

I had the same problem, until I walked into a MAC shop (well, the one I went to was in a department store), she picked up a colour and it immediately matched my face! It's very expensive though but i think it's well worth it, the foundation lasts ages and makes skin look flawless.

you could try mixing them together, if you're in the middle of two shades.

i would say, though, if you really can't decide, go somewhere like debenhams or house of fraser for help. obviously, it all depends on the store, and who's working at that time, but ive never found the people in boots to be massively helpful. one woman, for example, assigned me a foundation 3-4 shades too dark in a cool undertone, whereas i am a warm undertoned very pale person, and then when i asked her if there were any lighter shades, she said, yes but this one blends perfectly with your skin tone, you cant even tell you're wearing foundation. ermmmmmm.

Have you tried Dainty doll foundation by Nicola from Girls aloud. This is aimed at paler skins. You may also find a larger spectrum of colours from high end brands.

Sales ppl can be the worst sometimes. I'm always "matched" to darker shades that tend to be too red. If they don't even remove your foundation (if you're wearing any) this can be very telling.Lighting doesn't help either.

I have really pale skin too but I've found that The Body Shop all-in-one face base comes in very light shades. I'd definitely recommend it

I find Maybeline- DREAM matte mousse foundation works really well as its a combination between powder and liquid

Go to mac. They are very useful in finding the colour shade that suits you & plus they have tons of different shades.
