Thought it was just me up this late!
I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep.

They pretty much all are, except for maybe the paid ones. Okcupid seems to be the best out of a bad bunch though.

One of the things that used to annoy me when I used dating sites was when men would ask me "So why is a pretty girl like you still single? " ...argghh!

It's a dating site one of my mates use, I've seen it advertised on TV a few times too. It's a pretty annoying site tbh.
I did the basic sign-up, but didn't bother filling anything in because it looks pretty horrible. On the sign-up screen, it forces you to choose whether you're looking for men or women rather than both which - while it doesn't have any effect on my use of the site as I'm only interested in women - doesn't really sit right with me. It also has the possibility to check boxes for a bunch of common hobbies, which suggests to me it has the sort of ultra-generic user base that PoF seems to have.

Decided to message a few people WITHOUT pictures asking them to send one (not seedy ones), every single one replied.

Every single one was grossly overweight

I ended up not completing mine either, but I did do a search using men aged 28 who lived within 5 miles of me as a sample. Virtually all of them said they liked football and going the gym. And I also agree with you that people should have the option to pick both sexes, although it doesn't effect me either as I'm straight.

You have made a great sacrifice in the name of science.

Nothing wrong with liking football and going to the gym, but it's pretty depressing if you can just tick those two boxes and think 'hobbies DONE'. I just feel like it's the sort of site that lends itself towards not providing much interesting information about yourself (like PoF) and therefore primarily attracts people without anything interesting to say.

On a general note: I think my chances of success with any sort of online dating are pretty slim. I'm just too picky. There are so few people I'm even vaguely interested in that I don't send out enough messages to get responses, and the women I do message are sufficiently popular that there's no chance of them replying. I think I've been spoilt by relationships with very intelligent, very attractive women in the past (world's smallest violin, anyone? ).

I think the chances of success with online dating are slim for most people tbh. I have standards but I don't think they're too high, I just want someone who I can get along with, that I find attractive (not expecting a male model, but there needs to be a spark), not a chav and who'se a normal decent person.

At least with online dating you can sort of flick through a tonne and say no, no, no, no, oooh... ummm, nahhh, no, no, no..

Rather than end up pulling some fit person in a club and then finding out they're on the dole and have 2 kids haha.

Made a new okcupid profile, before I even had the chance to fill in any essays I had a guy message me just saying "Yummy :P" oh dear god.

Edit: It gets worse just got "I cant help but notice you look alot like my next girlfriend".

How old would you say it is 'normal' to start using dating sites? I'm 19 and sometimes toy with the idea but there's something that just doesn't sit right in my head for someone my age to be using dating sites

'Normal'? Well, I'm not a fan of the word when it comes to the judgement of behaviour, but given that, as far as I'm aware, less than 50% of the population of the UK at any age uses dating sites, there isn't an age it becomes 'normal' in the sense that the majority do it.

Maybe someone else will be able to provide a more satisfactory answer - I grew out of the idea that normality should be a criterion for selecting my actions when I was younger than you are now.

I just went though my matches on okcupid sorting by highest match first. Who was the first of my top matches? One of the fine young gents I met last time I used online dating, with a 94% match, 72% friend and 1% enemy

I kind of want to know what the OkCupid profiles of other people in this thread are to see how we match. But then I kind of don't, because then they'd see my OkCupid profile, which is kind of horrible.

    anyone tried http://www.meet-an-inmate.com/
Nope but I know a girl who used to write to men in prison. She never met any of them but they'd send her some pretty saucy mail describing what they wanted to do to her when they got out
