Yeah I do. I've tried it. I turned the laptop on, it then went to the login page (light blue screen page) with the cursor showing and remained like that for about an hour and a half. Then the Startup Repair box appears saying "Startup Repair is checking your system for problems" with the scanner running across and now in the bottom left hand corner a black box appears with a title saying "X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe ". Last time this happened I exited the "X:\windows........" page as there was nothing in it and I couldn't write in it, a few moments after a box popped up saying "Startup Repair cannot automatically fix this computer's problems" and asked if I would like to send the details to microsoft or don't send. I clicked "don't send", once again went through various boxes and finally got to the System Recovery Options box, which showed the operating system as Windows 7 on (D Local Disk, and had the following options:-

    - Startup Repair
    - System Restore
    - System Image Recovery
    - Windows Memory Diagnostic
    - Command Prompt
    - Recovery Management

I tried to click on System Restore to restore the laptop to an earlier point in time, but nothing was happening, I could click anything and nothing would happen. I then clicked Recovery Managment and it looked as though something was going to happen but nothing did. Anyways, I restarted the laptop, it's now on the Startup Repair box with the "X:\windows........." box in the corner, but I've just left the laptop and nothing further is happening.

It's clearly a lot to ask, but do you know what I could do to fix the laptop myself without having to purchase anything or at least temporarily get it sorted?

Have you tried starting up in safe mode? What OS are you on? Maybe try a command prompt sfc / verifyonly

you'll need to run as admin, here's a link

If you cannot work out what to do and nothing important is on your computer then reformat it if you have all the installation discs and whatnot.

F12 or F2 for boot setup options on mine. Maybe F8 F9 or something on others.

That seems like some serious software error :/

It depends on your own tech ability and if you got a few extra wires and a desktop.

Caution it will mean everything will be deleted............connection it up to your desktop using a sata cable and power connector........then connecting up and formatting the drive fresh when you logged in. Then reinsert it back to the laptop and then re install all the software.

I've tried, but nothing happens, the whole laptop is extremely slow, like I mean it takes 30 minutes to over an hour for each screen to load. That's why I've been searching for a laptop repair company as I don't have any clue on how to fix it myself and I don't recall the laptop coming with any installation discs or even if some did, I can't remember. I think the laptop probably came pre-loaded with the Windows 7 software, if that is at all possible.

I'd rather have someone professional do it, as I can't do anything myself with it.

Ah, ok dude, do you have any uni or colleges nearby? A comp science/tech dude or even some enthusiast could fix it on the cheap probably.

If mine broke I would try fix it myself through seven forums and whatnot and maybe end up blown up.

I don't live close to any colleges or universities. I've been searching loads of forums and they give instructions on how I could try to reboot to Windows 7 myself, but I don't have the installation CD as it was pre-installed and I think it got saved on a local disk (I think disk D). I've been searching for laptop repair companies online and sent them details but half of them haven't replied.

One person replied saying I had probably corrupted Windows 7 and how he could retrieve all the data and reinstall Windows 7 again or something for £80. The thing is though, he would come to my home and do it and to be honest, I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone in my home like that. Plus I am a bit skeptical because when I sent my details, I thought it would be a team of IT people as that is what the website suggests, but when I spoke to the man on the phone (he called me after I sent him details of the problem) and said he was freelance, I began to think why would he not say this on the site. I've also noticed a few spelling mistakes.

    Here's the site - http://www.mastercomputer.co.uk/

Another person emailed me back, but the spelling and the way the email looks is all a bit dodgy to me. There's two emails he sent to me below. By the looks of it, I think it's just a rip off company so I don't think I'm gonna have them do it.

    First email

    Thank you for your enquiry.

Cost to repair approx £100 (free quotation)

The layout and the fonts of the emails were different, though they were sent by the same company (allegedly). I'm gonna try and look for more through Google, and hopefully find someone who can do it.

You know we are in a recession? Not sure of the going rate but you could look in the yellow pages/local paper/admag and ring around. Do you not have any tech shops nearish to you?

Also the quotes you will get may not include delivery charges so if you are sending something in post it could end up being quite costly.

I would either fix mine myself, try get in touch with someone I know who did comp science at uni, or find a local shop to do it, and would be weighing up the price of a new system if it was going to be expensive.

Can you not get a OS disk from the company you bought your lappy from for nothing or delivery charges?

Can you not try the F(number) thing I mentioned and boot from that partition you think your OS may be on?

Not really that tech savvy when it comes to all the hardware but it might not even be your OS, could be your HD or something.

Do you still have command prompt option?

To use command prompt, choose that option and type sfc / scannow.

I just faff about if something goes wrong with mine.

Google, seven forums, and tech sites are your friends.

I've tried F8, tried to start it in safe mode, nothing happened, then tried F8 again and clicked on something (I can't remember what) it was something which said it could restore the laptop to the last session where it worked fine, the screen went black then blue and is still blue. However, I have clicked a bunch of different things after starting F8 and they all lead me to the blue screen.

I could order the Windows 7 CD from here http://www.software4students.co.uk/W...-software.aspx. I remember I turned the laptop on once, and it said something like "Windows failed to start properly" and other stuff like "Reboot from a CD or installation disk" but I don't have either and that information doesn't come up anymore. Also, I don't wanna buy the Windows 7 CD then still not be able to fix the laptop and in the end have to ask someone to do it for more money which is why I'm sitting here looking all over the place for laptop repair companies.
