Advanced Higher Art and Design
I've opted for doing the Design as a major and Expressive as a minor. I've got ideas for expressive but for design I'm a bit stuck.
I'm applying for both painting and fashion design at uni, but my school only offers textiles for design. Is that because you can't submit a fashion piece to the SQA? I'm just really confused because I was told if I do a textile design but focus on the fashion aspect of it it will come off as 'unfocused' and be marked down. Is this the case? I really would like to create a wearable garment but also design the textile too. Or would this be far to much work for one year including the expressive minor?
Thanks in advance. -
Re: Advanced Higher Art and Design
Hi!
I am doing Advanced Higher too. I am doing Design for my major and I am planning on doing a dress of some sort. I knew what topic I wanted to choose and after a discussion with my teacher she said I could something like a wall hanging, head piece and a garment. So if she recommended a fashion piece too, it obviously mustn't mark you down
As far as I know, with design and choosing textiles, it can be ANYTHING so long as it involves textiles in some shape or form! I am definitely planning on using textiles to make my pieces but I knew from the start I was going to do a fashion piece. My art teacher hasn't said anything that would mark us down in any way - the only thing that could show us in a worse light is if we choose a topic which can't take us through the huge amount of sheets we have to do
Hope that helped!
