The problem with being Mixed raced
Hi guys,
First post
I have pretty much my entire life felt outcasted simply due to my mixed heritage. I am half Irish (father) and half Indian (mother). Two pretty different cultures, apart from the fact that they both drink ridiculous amounts of alcohol... yes Indian punjabi for you Indians out there.
I just don't know where the **** I fit in. My skin is a milky tea kind of colour and I guess I look more asian/mediteranian than I do Irish, apart from my ginger beard.
I guess what I am trying to say is that when I'm with Asians I feel I can relate simply because I look more similar to them. Maybe it's just in my head but thats how I feel.
When people look at me they only see the "Asian" looking boy and I guess I get disheartened because I feel I have been alienated away from my Irish heritage. I mean a brown guy entering a full on Irish pub and then the stares ect.
Anyone else who is mixed raced can shed some light on how they dealt with neglecting one part of your heritage for another?
Thanks -
Re: The problem with being Mixed raced
I am sorry you've gone through that, and had to deal with that. I am not mixed race myself, but I just wanted to say that it probably all goes down the whole one drop theory. This is that if you have any other race in you other than Caucasian; you are automatically not one of 'them.' This isn't my opinion but I was just trying to explain maybe why you feel that you fit in more with Asians

Also, if I was you, I would try to ignore all the stares and looks you get in a pub or whatever, because what they're doing is not fair; making you feel different. Just go in there, and act like you belong, even if you don't feel like it inside; eventually after 5 minutes perhaps they'll stop looking at you. -
Re: The problem with being Mixed raced
I'm 1/4 English, 1/4 German, 1/4 Russian Jewish and 1/4 Korean so I kind of know what you're talking about. However, I don't really care about 'fitting in' to a particular culture. I just take each person I meet as an individual and expect them to do the same, as a result I have a pretty eclectic group of friends. Personally I think it's far more interesting to have a diverse group of friends than belong to a homogenous clique anyway. Don't get me wrong we still have a lot in common interest wise which is surely more important than what we look like/skin tone. My advice.. just loosen up hang around with people you enjoy being with and you'll soon form your own unique identity which will transcend petty ethnic barriers.

Re: The problem with being Mixed raced
Awh... I'm sorry to hear that. I hold nothing against mixed raced people, because i actually think its a great thing to come from a mixed heritage. I also think that being half Irish and half Indian is a really cool combination, and i feel that there is nothing wrong with being proud of that.

Sorry to hear this.
You would also have a problem finding a blood donor, and a bone marrow transplant, as mixed race people have unique genes.
You do know that race doesn't affect your blood type, I mean sure some races have more O+ or whatever, but being mixed race will not make him less compatible; since blood types are synonymous with all races. E.g. A black person with O+, can give to a white person with O+. -

jesus, you must be tremendously good looking.
why's that?

Re: The problem with being Mixed racedWell I think it's fair to say I look fairly unique, but "tremendously attractive" I think not.(Original post by cambio wechsel)
my experience has been that interracial parents very often produce good looking offspring, and this will likely be truer where there is 'Russian Jew' and Korean thrown into the mix.

Re: The problem with being Mixed racedI would. Black guys get way more chicks than Asian guys.(Original post by Denny Crane)
Im black and I'm pretty sure you would never trade places with me, even for a day. So I don't see what your issue is, humans are very flawed beings. Its just the way it is.
