Forensic Psychology MSc - University of Leicester 2012
    Hey,

I went for my interview on Thursday 24th May and received an Unconditional offer the very next day - I was wondering if anyone else has received and accepted an offer from Leicester for their 2012 Forensic Psychology MSc course?

Hi, i've just graduated with a 2:1 in Psychology and i'm hoping to do an MSc in Forensic Psychology starting next Sept (2013). I'm hoping to gain work experience/relevant job this year to build up some experience before applying and i was just wondering what (if any) experience you've done?

Hi, I undertook a months voluntary placement at a young offenders institute, though that is all the experience I had (I have also jut graduated)! A friend on my course tried getting similar experience but found it very tough - only 3/53 insitutions responded - but shes now been taken on by pentonville volunteering with the programmes department

Alternatively, people I have met through my placement recommended getting involved in mentring schemes which can run by the councils youth offending service as well as volunteering for prominent charities such as victim support.

I hope this helps and good luck with finding a job&/ voluntary work!

Hey, yead missldp is right. I really struggled getting any sort of relevant work experience - even voluntary work. I wrote to, emailed and phoned prisons all over Yorkshire - no luck. Tried probation service - no luck. My best advice would be to get in touch with prisons, probation service, and young offenders teams near you and ask for voluntary work. I got my voluntary work with REMEDI which deals with young offenders and in restorative justice. I got work experience as a Reparation Supervisor. Also, try mentoring schemes (there are a few in prisons). Basically you just need any sort of experience working with offenders/ex-offenders and/or being in a prison/secure environment - also relevant is secure mental health institututions.

    Lauren.
