Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeYes, energy and transferred and work done are basically one and the same.(Original post by rgc610)
And also, for the very first question, for the area under graph would "Work Done" be okay?
On a completely different note I think people are missing a fundamental point regarding why the grade boundaries were so much higher in January:
I do agree that the January paper was easier, but at the same time, I wouldn't say that June's was particularly hard?
Grade boundaries are unlikely to shift by more than a few raw marks based on difficulty alone - you are still sitting an A level in Physics. The reason the boundaries shifted so much was not mainly due to difficulty but due to the extra 15minutes granted in this paper from this year, which was not available in previous years - because of this, many more people were able to complete the whole paper in time / spend longer over their questions and thus the average mark rises along with the grade boundaries. Therefore, I would not be surprised at all if the grade boundaries for this exam just passed are not within 2-3 marks of January's exam.
Sorry if this isn't what you all want to hear but I think it's the truth!
Hope everyone does ok though -
Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeTotally agree.. I'm thinking 74 for the A, since it was 76 in January.(Original post by ehirst)

It won't decrease more than 2 UMS, never has before, so won't this time.
Previous years it has only decreased by 1 UMS Maximum.
The June 2011 boundaries to January 2012 only went up by 10 UMS due to the extra time. -
Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeThe jan 12 G482 grade boundaries increased quite a bit compared to other years, however they didnt add 15 minutes to the exam.(Original post by ehirst)

I'm sure you know the boundaries for G482 and G485 are similar. Why did an A grade reach into the 70's for G482, when its usualy between 64-68?
The average mark for Jan 12 G485 was 10 marks higher than usual, this is due to the extra time but much more due to the difficulty of paper, it was far easier than the other papers. Easier calculations and less written questions.
I think the an A grade will be between 71-69/100, based on the difficulty and the additional time.
I just dont believe 15 minutes can increase the average mark by 10-12 marks alone.Last edited by Jukeboxing; 13-06-2012 at 19:02. -
Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeCheers mate! Same for you Ash!(Original post by AwesomeAkhilesh)
wow, nice one jov! think i got around the same!
let's hope grade boundaries are nice!
time to start revising for my next exam now
haha!

Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeNo, this is a fair point - I agree with you; however, I'm not saying that it was just the time that caused the shift. I would say it would account for ~80% of the grade increase, but just the reduced difficulty of the paper would never cause such a huge increase in raw score boundaries either. I reckon it was a combination of relative ease and time, just time was more of a factor.(Original post by Jukeboxing)

Regardless, I would imagine that the boundaries for this exam will still be very close to the last ones. -

Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeI'd be cautious about reading too much into the jan 2012 grade boundaries. The Jan exam population for this module is made up almost entirely of 3rd year resit students. Consequently its a very different population of students taking it compared to the June papers and I'd expect the grade profiles to be different.

Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemePosted - along with thoughts on each question - and the paper as a whole.
but
I dont know what the grade boundaries will be
I dont know how many marks you'll get
I dont know how many raw marks will be needed for X UMS marks -

Re: Physics A G485. My answers and mark schemeA lot of this year's paper was memorising facts...apart from that *In my opinion* the maths isn't too hard. Also, it makes things a lot easier if you've attended lessons :P(Original post by ForensicShoe)
How the **** do you guys do Physics?
Just looking at these questions hurts my brain
haha!
