Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
I'm not really sure what I'm hoping to hear right now but none of my friends are snwering their phones or my mum and I'm home alone and I'm in a total messs
I've just got a call from my doctor saying that this on-going health problem I've got is not getting better and it needs to be fixed etc etc but he wants to get me in as an in-patient, asap
my A2 exams are starting on Friday for 2 weeks! He said he knows they're important but my health needs to come first
I really don't know what to do. I've requested special consideration but can only get like 3-4% max. The way this is going I've got no hope of getting in to university.
Will universitys even consider this? I can't even contemplate messing up my whole future, it's a total nightmare -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????'Highly abnormal liver function'. I don't even know what it means and they don't know what's causing it or anything.(Original post by Bleak Lemming)
Whats your health problems (out of curiosity - not being nosey!)? Might help people advise you better. -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
First of all, calm down.
Since it's an organ related problem, I'd say that you need to go especially if the doctor has phoned you specifically. Exams can be resat and retaken, they will always be there. Your health can change and deteriorate and it's not worth messing around with.

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????I know it is more important, i think i'm just having trouble thinking of it like that because i feel totally fine. I'll ask him if it can wait two weeks - it's not that long really(Original post by salty_candy)
Your health is more important. I dunno, ask your doctor if it would be possible to go straight after your exams, if not explain to your unis and hope they understand. You can always take a gap year (not ideal, but better than risking your health) -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????Yeah this is something I'd probably nip in the bud. I'd deffo get yourself into hospital but ask for day release on the day of your exams, even just for a few hours.(Original post by sammy-lou)
'Highly abnormal liver function'. I don't even know what it means and they don't know what's causing it or anything.
Perfect chance to revise sitting in hospital. I know its your health but it works both ways.. Health is important, but I'd try my hardest to get to exams too! -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????The thing is with organs it can be the difference between getting it sorted and the problem getting so big you can't sort it at all... You need to see what your GP says I think, about whether or not waiting two weeks would be an option.(Original post by sammy-lou)

Can you go in and revise there and then leave for exams? Not ideal though. Or take a gap year which is not the end of the world. *Speak to your doctor to see what options you have.
Thats true I suppose. I hadn't thought about the possibility of day release - I want to at least sit the exams even if they don;t go as well as i want them to. Thanks for your replies(Original post by kiss_me_now9)

Start on Friday??
sorry I have nothing of value to say, I was just dumbfounded that they're so late -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????yeah, I think i'm going to do that tomorrow once i've seen the doctor again and actually know exactly whats happening(Original post by katiehockey22)
Why don't you phone up your school/college & uni to ask for their advice?

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????Talk to your school exams officer and get their advice. I've heard of people taking exams at their hospital bed.......(Original post by sammy-lou)
I'm not really sure what I'm hoping to hear right now
If you can't even take the exams but have completed most of your qualifications there's stuff the examiners can do with past performance & predicted grades etc to decide on a grade for you.
Once you know what is happening contact your University. There's stuff they can do regarding your application and maybe being more lenient with grades.
Your health is more important, and if worst comes to worst a gap year isn't so bad -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????yeah I guess I just need to talk to doctor, then college, then universities. thank you(Original post by gdunne42)

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
Only on TSR would people suggest ignoring a doctor who is so worried he actually phoned you to tell you how serious your medical problem is and that you need to come in immediately, just for exams. They don't just do that to anyone, you know. He is seriously worried.
You need to go into hospital.Last edited by nexttime; 12-06-2012 at 15:00. -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
Health does come first, and hard to reverse. You should go in straight away, and let your fam/friends know of the dilemma too, they should be able to help you. Trust me, when it comes to your organs, you need to make sure everything is ok. Everything can feel absolutely fine, trust me I know, but it doesn't mean that it is! I know it seems difficult to understand in a way, and exams are important too, but try to revise as well as getting it sorted, if that is possible. And it is, just try really hard, plus considerations and resits, should beable to help, and hopefully your uni will be understanding

-------
Having done a lot of my AS's in and out of hospital, it is possible to do exams whilst being an inpatient!! I got AAB in my AS exams and I was almightly ill at the time!!
You need to contact your exam officer at school/ college and they are legally obliged to help you, e.g. get an exam invigilator to you in hospital
You also need to contact your uni choices
Good luck!!
