Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????Go to the hospital. apply for leniency, if they say no retake the year, just stay calm, its better being health than losing a year, although this is based on a vague description of you health, i assumed it was immediately life threatening, if its a strong cough thought, just tough it out.(Original post by sammy-lou)
I'm not really sure what I'm hoping to hear right now but none of my friends are snwering their phones or my mum and I'm home alone and I'm in a total messs
I've just got a call from my doctor saying that this on-going health problem I've got is not getting better and it needs to be fixed etc etc but he wants to get me in as an in-patient, asap
my A2 exams are starting on Friday for 2 weeks! He said he knows they're important but my health needs to come first
I really don't know what to do. I've requested special consideration but can only get like 3-4% max. The way this is going I've got no hope of getting in to university.
Will universitys even consider this? I can't even contemplate messing up my whole future, it's a total nightmare

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????1) Some hospitals have 'schools' within them - mainly the bigger ones. They do exams inthose.(Original post by sammy-lou)
Thats true I suppose. I hadn't thought about the possibility of day release - I want to at least sit the exams even if they don;t go as well as i want them to. Thanks for your replies
2) Someone who is asymptomatic with simply an abnormal blood test would not normally need admitting for a few tests.
If the doctor at the hospital is being anumpty speak to your GP who may have more of a balanced view of the need for your exams vs gettinga few results a bit quicker.
3) Ask EXACTLY what they want to do int he hospital and WHY they need you as an inpatient for it.
You know how much of a hassle and set back it will be to not do these exams, so you'll need to take charge of things yourself to get the best outcome

I don't think it is the doctor just over-reacting though. I've had multiple blood tests and they've all come back abnormal, and various scans I've had have shown up visible problems with the liver and spleen. I think this is why he's so concerned. The thing is I don't know if he wants me in simply for some more tests or for treatment, which means I have no idea how long I'm going to need to be in for. -

You have a right to know what you are beign admitted for.
I can't think of many non-invasive tests that need you to be an inpatient, and if he is planning of performing exploratory surgery or a biopsy or something then you need to know. -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????Someone at my school is really ill and had to have operations so can't come in, and an invigilator goes to her house so she can do the exams. Phone your school and ask if it can be arranged that an invigilator comes to the hospital so you can do your exams there.(Original post by sammy-lou)

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
About 3 4 years ago I had abnormal pancreatic tests so same type of area along with a lot of pain and took time off uni as health does come first. Your best bet is to talk to your gp tomorrow and speak about your concerns with exams etc. Also ask why you need to be admitted if its for surgery or observation. Most hospitals have hospital schools which will be able to help especially larger teaching hospitals. Hopefully you will find out what is causing this.

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
Hi, I have just been in the same situation that you are now only Im doing my GCSE's, a routine appendicitis op turned into readmittance 4 times and another lot of open sugery over 4 months, the last admittance being a week before my GCSE's start.
I spent a long time trying to decide weather to do my GCSE's and after talking to my school, I could only get GCSE's in subjects that I had completed more than 30% of the course through coursework - not many under the new specs!!!
Although my docs advised against it i have sat all of my exams, i will also hopefully recieve special recomendation, although only 5% of total grade.
So if i was you, do as the docs advise, many hospitals have a special room where you can sit exams - i was offered the school room on the childrens ward. Make sure you get your consultant to write a letter, advising against the sitting of your exams so you look better if you do manage to sit them.
Finally, your health comes before your education and as bad and hard as everything seems now, it will get better
PM me if you need anymore information x -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????
Just to update, I'm feeling much better now - I've been given a course of steroids for during my exams and the doctor has agreed to admit me immediately after my last exam, provided my condition doesn't deteriorate before that. College is being very cooperative. I know what it probably is and although it's quite serious it shouldn't be anything that'll affect my day-to-day life once I've had treatment

Thanks for all of your replies - you've all been very helpful! -
Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????Good to know you're being looked after. Get well soon.(Original post by sammy-lou)

Re: Hospital and exams - what the hell do i do????This I think has been quoted already but to further reiterate a crucial point made here OP-Hospital and your welfare takes presidence in this situation.(Original post by nexttime)
Only on TSR would people suggest ignoring a doctor who is so worried he actually phoned you to tell you how serious your medical problem is and that you need to come in immediately, just for exams. They don't just do that to anyone, you know. He is seriously worried.
You need to go into hospital.
Edit: Saw your update, glad to hear you sought help and hope you are okay
