Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
My primary school had blackboards and as I was leaving they changed to interactive whiteboards, which I didn't really like. At secondary they had whiteboards and interactive boards but for Maths and Physics I really didn't like the whiteboards, I think blackboards full of equations look much better!

Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
Part of me thinks it would be nice to teach with a blackboard but the IWB is very useful - I use mine to display pictures, videos, audio, text, games etc. We can add to the flipcharts, with notes and images and diagrams too etc. Plus, I can then save the whole lot - the base I use to teach and all the additions made during the lesson/by the children - very handy when you want to refer back.
Plus, I can always try and make my IWB look like a blackboard lol - black backdrop and white pen colour.

Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
I didn't like whiteboards at all.
I didn't like how 'unclean' they were because rubbing stuff off them didn't completely get rid of the chalk and at the end of the day you'd end up with chalky hands, a chalky whiteboard and just feeling pretty chalky.
Out of the three I'd prefer whiteboards.
Interactive whiteboards have 'too much going on' I feel. I don't know, I've just felt like, although they're a very efficient way of delivering resources, they're not very easy to express oneself on.
So if it was just to write stuff on and then rub off soon after, I'd choose whiteboards.
If it was to present something and annotate it, I'd obviously choose interactive whiteboards.
On a side note, does anyone remember OverHeadProjectors??
I once broke one by accident and the school didn't notice seeing as they hardly used them. -
Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
Blackboards make screeching sounds and erasing them forms a dust cloud, which can't possibly be healthy. On the plus side, they look quite nice when written on.
Whiteboards are hassle free. Easy to write on, easy to erase and a multitude of coloured markers to choose from.
Interactive boards aren't used enough at my college for me to have an opinion. -
Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
They got rid of blackboards when I was in Year Two and started adding interactive whiteboards when I was in Year Five. Of all three, I prefer the whiteboard. The blackboard made a horrific sound when you drew on it, and the interactive whiteboard is ****ing annoying when no one bothers to calibrate it. Plus, at my old school, the computers were all really dodgy, and we'd end up having to use whiteboards anyway most of the time. I find that interactive whiteboards are the most useful, but trying to write on them is often a hassle

Whiteboards. Blackboards, although nice to look at, are a pain to clean and I don't like the chalk dust getting everywhere. If you have good pens, board and board rubber then a whiteboard will stay clean for a long time. And when it does get all dirty, cleaning fluid is cheap.
Also the inevitable corrections I'd need to make are easier on whiteboards.
That said, I haven't bought one for my room... yet. -
Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
Whiteboards are so much more practical than the other two. Having to use chalk and the dust are the downfalls of a blackboard. And most of the time interactive whiteboards were just totally unnecessary as they were only really used in the same way a whiteboard is, but were more expensive and harder to write on. They were handy for powerpoints though.
Whiteboards are quick and easy. Easy to write on, easy to wipe clean. I always liked getting those little ones handed out to us in Maths lessons, to write answers on and hold up (if anyone else did that)Last edited by Cll_ws; 12-06-2012 at 19:51. -
Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards? That's true!(Original post by Pensivedore)
Interactive whiteboards. There's nothing more satisfying than watching the teacher get frustrated everytime the pen doesn't work and they have to calibrate the board AGAIN.
it does get quite tedious in the end though, the teacher spends half the lesson just trying to make the interactive board work! -
Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
Whiteboards are the easiest to use, blackboards look the nicest and interactive boards are the most flexible in terms of what you can do on them...
So it all depends on -
1. Do you mind chalky mess?
2. Do you like to add pictures and photographs?
3. Do you like to just write quickly and simply?
Answer No, No, Yes - BLACKBOARD
Answer Yes, No, Yes - WHITEBOARD
Answer Yes, Yes, No (they always mess up) - INTERACTIVE
Yeah. I'll go for whiteboard

Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards? That's very true! The interactive whiteboard is 100 times more useful than either of the other, I just like the simplicity of a blackboard and chalk! In primary school everybody always wanted the job of getting to clean the blackboard(Original post by affinity89)

Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards? We used one today in maths because there was only 1 copy of the textbook (Year 13s haven't done C3 yet). I remember using them a lot in french last year. My maths and french teacher quite like using them. And they're married. Hmm..(Original post by PrismaticCore)
