We used one today in maths because there was only 1 copy of the textbook (Year 13s haven't done C3 yet). I remember using them a lot in french last year. My maths and french teacher quite like using them. And they're married. Hmm..
Oh god, we had that. Someone decided to buy her own C3 textbook and our teacher was really bitchy about it and got in a massive 'WHY DID YOU BUY YOUR OWN WHEN YOU KNEW WE'D GET YOU ONE' strop.

Instead, they made us download this really slow digital copy of the textbook.
It's like what happened with GCSE Science, we had to use a digital textbook which barely worked half the time so I basically bought my own.

I remember using OHPs in primary school in assembly. They'd put the lyrics to songs on them and we'd sing a song every morning.

That's very true! The interactive whiteboard is 100 times more useful than either of the other, I just like the simplicity of a blackboard and chalk! In primary school everybody always wanted the job of getting to clean the blackboard
Depending on what we are doing, my class love having the role of scribe. It is very cute, and it means I don't have to have my back to the class when recording their ideas. They also love the job of popping behind my desk to sit at the PC itself and type things in, when we are using a game or something that requires that sort of thing.

I do love the interactive whiteboards but they don't feel as nice to write on, for me a normal whiteboard with projector on wins,

I adorn the blackboard. It's almost the epitome of intellect.

Blackboards. I miss the screech I could make with chalk when feeling especially sadistic. After that, whiteboards, although they make your hands filthy. Interactive whiteboards are gimmicky, prone to go wrong and add nothing to a lesson that a good teacher can't do with a pen, paper and the human voice. (Yes, I am that grumpy old git in the corner of the staff room moaning about the good old days when you could give them a clip round the ear.)

    Whiteboards.

    Blackboards are too dusty.

Most of my teachers were either too scared of technology to use the interactive boards or were always messing the thing up.

Haven't had that yet, I don't think anybody is complaining about doing less work

I have to say I never use the CDs that come in the back. You cannot beat a heavy textbook you can handily throw at a wall in frustration. I can't learn off a screen so I completely understand.

We used to have singing assemblies which was basically an hour of hymns read off the OHP. We weren't even a CofE school? I kid you not, we sang a verse that was 'Thank you Lord for chocolate cake'

Interactive makes small rooms well too hot! So I'll go for whitebords on this one, easier to rub out mistakes too

We had that!! Well, not quite 'Thank you lord for chocolate cake' but I think we had the more 'sensible' version of that hymn. We weren't even a CofE or Catholic school or anything. We even had a prayer every assembly. And every tuesday we'd have the reverend come in and talk to us about Jesus and sing even more hymns.
Why do primary schools do that??

And I can't read off a screen either. It's the reason why I've refused to get a kindle, there's nothing like being able to flick through pages and scribble on them.
Some teachers do this thing where they print off the presentations they're going to use/annotate in a lesson and so we're able to make notes using them during the lesson. Seems like a waste of paper, but it's actually the most helpful way to teach!

Whiteboards are best for writing on out of those options but Id rather have interactive because of powerpoint. Ive also had OHPs, flip charts and visualisers. Visualisers are the best by far.

Whiteboards-chalk boards can get dusty, interactive whiteboards are very expensive and that money could be spent elsewhere, and they don't always work, so whiteboards are the best. The others do have various advantages but personally I prefer the whiteboard

    IWB

Firstly ... never had a problem using one

Secondly ... enables easy interaction for the students in a number of ways

Thirdly ... If I want to go back to the previous slide to emphasise a point or to further explain then I can

Fourthly ... I can save work from one lesson to the next making it easier to collate the contents of a module for a particular class

Fifthly ... I can email the notebook to missing students

I have literally never been to a school where they use blackboards. I guess I am too young for that

Has to be the whiteboard. IWBs never seem to work properly and they are rarely used at my school anyway.

Re: Do you prefer blackboards, whiteboards or interactive boards?
In primary, the teachers had blackboards but they were rarely used. I don't think they were practical at all, no real colour stimulus to help you remember things and often took too long to clean etc.
I personally prefer white boards to interactive ones. I find that teachers take advantage of interactive whiteboards and just stick on videos and stuff, they're good for explaining physical things I guess, with the interactive diagrams and so on, but that's about it. They give off a horrible glare and people often complain they can't read them, plus when the writing isn't orientated it's ridiculous!
Whiteboards are easier to read and teachers actually teach properly and go over everything.

There's nothing worse than the squeak of white board pens!

Not even the tapping of interactive white board pens! Nor the scratching of chalk!
