Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?Yes of course, out of the people I know who have grown up with one parent they usually form a bond with another family member of the same sex of the parent they lost, e.g. if they don't have a mother then they are often close with an aunt/family friend. It's perfectly possible(Original post by minimarshmallow)
Not to mention that if these stereotypes don't exist male and female gender role models don't have to be the parents!

Your family values, or mine?(Original post by Iron Lady)
Family values must be protected.
However, I recognise that gay parents could do a good job, and they're probably better than some of the shocking parents who rely on social services. -

Evidence? Or troll? -

Why do you respond to the trolls? -

Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)? So a male couple can have kids without adopting or surrogates?(Original post by minimarshmallow)
Gay people have their own children, being gay doesn't make you infertile. -

Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?I agree with your point, but I would hesitate to summarise it as "Gay couples tend to be more loving and caring parents".(Original post by Giant)
I'm sure two loving fathers or two loving mothers would be better than an abusive or alcoholic/drug addicted parent.
Gay couples tend to be more loving and caring parents as they choose to become parents and are willing to put themselves through a lot of stress to get the documentation, living standards etc. right, unlike some parents who may have them accidentally and be unfit economically and psychologically to have children.
Of course, this isn't the case for most heterosexual parents, just some.
While that is what is implied by what you said, it takes a more subtle point and casts it in black and white. I think a lot of people might be instantly aliened by that way of putting it, especially is they didn't read on. -
Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?whether you like it or not, but the original way of life for human beings was 1man/1woman family....that was how humans lived in their original unchanged habitat.....in that sense, lesbianism could almost be seen as a threat to mankind as a whole cuz they are trying to change the original way of life of human beings...(Original post by mmmpie)
No two families are the same. There is no "standard" for family values.
It annoys me intensely when people say things like "family values must be protected" when what they mean is "my idea of family values must be privileged". -
Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?Completely agree.(Original post by OU Student)
Single parent doesn't always equal **** parent. Sometimes, a single parent can be better than a couple who don't look after their child properly.
Similar thing with divorce not necessarily being a bad thing. When my parents split, I went from having one unhappy family to having two very happy families, nothing to be sad about. -
Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?the reason why there arent as many F'ed up gay parents is cuz there are arent as many gay parents anyways....I think the percentage of bad parents in straight couples and gay couples is not much different...although straight couples have a natural advantage naturally.(Original post by Fallen)

Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)? Not with each other no.(Original post by TheKingoftheJews)
So a male couple can have kids without adopting or surrogates?
But that still doesn't mean that if everyone was gay no babies would be born, which is what the person I quoted said.Last edited by minimarshmallow; 17-06-2012 at 04:07. -
Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?
They need parental traits needed for the kid to grow up firm, moral, compassionate etc
These traits are independent of the parents sex.
Dopey people just associate stuff like being caring to a mother and being firm to a father and then think that you need both sexes to have these traits...
NO, a gay or lesbian couple can have these traits the same way single parents canLast edited by Dmon1Unlimited; 17-06-2012 at 03:57. -

Re: Do children really need one mother and one father (not gay parents)?I couldn't find anywhere where it said the researchers were gay...
And even if they were it wouldn't affect their ability to do research into families. It said they were from New York University - a prestigious institution and it's being published with critiques which means it has been extensively peer reviewed.
