Me too, and at the moment it is not looking good at all. I'm so annoyed. I have had conversations with finance staff assuring me we are eligible for the funding and then 5 months before we start we are told that we're not - I'm gutted

No tuition fees are still paid, but we will receive no student loan for maintenance

I hope this doesn't affect anyones ability to study...

I genuinely am not sure how to survive on just the bursary??? Accomodation alone will take up a significant chunk of that and then there's travel and actually feeding myself.

Are other people planning to fund it themselves? I have no idea what to do.

Oh right that's a real shame. It's not fair really as if you were doing the undergraduate degree you would get the student loan even though you have already done a degree before. Totally unfair, it's like they are penalising you for doing the shorter course.

I'm not quite sure how student finance can justify not offering the same funding to both undergraduates and post graduates. I had to have a rather shameful conversation with my parents to ask them if they can help me out. There must be someone we can complain to?

Hi, so glad this thread already exists!

Im on the verge of applying for adult nursing but remaining open minded about switching onto mental health. I know a fair few people who have just finished the course and the first year is altogether then after that you specialise in your specific area.

Im really worried about finance, but i really dont want to go through the whole halls thing again so im looking at getting a cheap place in derby itself rather than commuting from nottingham.

Nice to hear that we can still apply for maintenance grants though

Sorry, I've got myself mixed up on threads here, there's another one where people have said they will be scrapped. It's the DipHE which is being scrapped as they want all student nurses who enter the register to have carried out study at degree level at least. A PGDip is done a higher level than degree and thus will be staying about.

Me neither! I spent ages going through student finance and I found out I was ineligible that way. I'm not sure there is even time for a part time job! Might be the only option though. Think I'm gonna try and do a bit of saving before January. Can't think of anything else?!

With regards to PGDip/ MSc. The course has been upgraded to an MSc because the funding would never allow us to do a further MSc (assuming we first studied for the PGDip) and so the uni have kindly thrown us in an extra level of qualification for the same price. Although we can decide just how kind it is when we're writing our dissertation whilst on placement.

Also, further to my previous comments. What are folks planning on doing about accommodation? I was planning on commuting from Notts but i'm now thinking just moving to Derby. I don't know what type of accommodation to go for though?

Iv applied for halls holeye. However these are so expensive and now we aren't going to be getting the loan im not sure what to do. We are only going to be getting 5395 a year max, right? How can you possibly live on this?!

Yeah thats right, and after halls cost you'll most likely have less than £1000 left It's ridiculous really.

It would be good if we could find a few of us to rent a private student house and that'll save us a lot. Although that's easier said than done when we've never even met!

Thanks for that holeye, I have requested to join.

If those looking for a student house wanted to meet for coffee surely that could be arranged between now and Jan? Any thoughts? H
