I've ruined myself
by letting myself get ridiculously overweight. I'm 6ft but weigh 17.5 stone and absolutely hate myself for it.
I've tried and tried to shift it but the habits of a lifetime are hard to change. I now think what is the point cause if I do lose weight I'm just going to be left with a sack of saggy skin covered in stretch marks. It gets me down so much, I can't believe I let it get this far
I started Weight Watchers again tonight but it seems like the biggest battle to fight.
Anyone else feel similar? -
Re: I've ruined myself
if you lose weight its unlikely you will be left with saggy skin - its designed to adapt to fit you.
the stretch marks can be removed with a good moisturizer or bio-oil.
I am also sensitive about my weight, but you are young, so if you work hard, you'll be able to change it back with the help of a dietician/doctor.
also it would be good to check that you don't have an eating disorder, or any medical reasons for weight gain e.g. slow metabolism, insulin resistance/diabetes e.t.c. -
Re: I've ruined myself
How old are you? 17.5st at 6ft is overweight, but it's not morbidly obese or anything, if you're young it's very unlikely you'll be left with saggy skin. YOung skin is elastic and will "shrink back down". If you lose weight fast you might have some loose skin for a while until it catches up... though you're much better to lose it slowly and steadily anyway. Much less likely to put it back on than with "quick fix" weight loss like crash dieting / unsustainably intense exercise.
It does mean, though, that you're better to get down to the weight you'd like to be NOW, rather than later... if you wait until you're a pudgy middle-aged wreck, THEN it'll be much more difficult to lose the stretched-out skin. -

Stick with WeightWatchers, as an assistant there and daughter of a successful leader, I know that it improves your lifestyle no end and that weight will drop off with time. Get into the habit of doing exercise alongside the new eating plan (it gets easier the more weight you lose, trust me) and you'll look toned, not flabby.
Best of luck! -
Re: I've ruined myself
I lost two stone back in 2010 (I'm 18 now). The main thing for me was cutting down my portion sizes, Instead of having my mum put my food out for me I put my own out and gave myself smaller portions. Also cut down on snacks, and if you do want a snack have something like a cereal bar. I also used to drink normal coke, so I switched to diet (even if you don't like it at first you will start to after a little while, now I prefer it), and now I only drink diet coke when I'm out and I have coffee or juice most of the time when I'm at home.
Try to exercise a few times a week, I started going to the gym using mainly the treadmill and cross trainer, and although I couldn't jog for long at all at start I kept at it and now I go on runs that last a few miles and I'm hoping to run a half marathon next year. When it comes to exercise the two things that helped me were going the gym with my friends, as I felt like I didn't want to let them down, and the enjoyment and sense of accomplishment of running.
You've just gotta keep yourself motivated, I researched into it a lot and that got me pumped and excited to do all this stuff, and if you have a bad day don't give up, just make sure you start healthy the next day. -
Re: I've ruined myself
My honest opinion would be to try something completly different - keto. You stop eating carbs and it drastically reduces how much you want to eat, it eliminates cravings, all while being able to eat tasty bacon and yummy veggies.
I have huge issues with food - before I started keto, I never knew how "full" felt. My body would never say no to more food. Keto has really changed my mind-set and I would recommend it to anyone. It's a really effortless diet to do, and it works.
Also, I would recommend exercise, but if you want to work up to it that's fine. If you have Wii Fit that's a good start, but I would recommend going to the gym because the equipment makes everything easier, it gives you a daily goal, and the inductions ensure you're doing everything correctly and well.Last edited by Muffinz; 14-06-2012 at 12:00.
