    My cat is sick HELP!
Yesterday my cat had a seizure, foaming at mouth fell to her side and paddling of the feet. Took her straight to the vet said it could have been change in climate or something around house eg washing powder. Gave two injections long term antibiotic and another to relax. Also said her nose cod have been stuffed and she panicked didn't get a real reason.
Was told to come back three days later however the day after I rang and was talking to a different vet said to bring her in for blood samples.
All came back clear which I was pretty upset about I was hoping it would have been something by so serious and easy treated. Was then told it could be a stroke however I researched and my cat had shown none of the symptoms. She is 7and a half indoor cat..noticed that two days before this happened she was drinking a lot.
ATM I'm really confused it was the worst thing I have ever witnessed, I have no explanation for why she did this! Has anyone got any advice..please ask questions if I haven't included something here
    Thanks

Bit of a long shot - well an extremely long shot but have you looked up thyroid at all?
Generally I'd say to trust the vet but at the same time if your cat gets sick again trust your instincts of knowing your cat. If you really think she's badly ill then take her back and ask for a second opinion. Make sure you keep an eye on her and her diet - she might've picked up a 'human' disease or eaten the wrong thing. I know my cats used to hunt around and find bits of any old thing.

My cat had this for a while, he'd have seizures every week or so, but after a few months he just stopped having them. Its pretty scary when they first have one, but actually seizures are often harmless.

When we first went in the vet said it could have been a change..we recently began growing a tomato plant and used tomato food (keep away from animals) I don't think she would ever be up at it but I don't follow her 24/7 so we thought this could be the case, I also had just washed the floor and feed her and she messes about and the food goes on the floor and she eats it and also ye washing powder was a concern I was hoping one of these was the reason probably acute poisoning and it would be okay but her blood samples are fine?? It's very annoying

Did you take it to your vet?? Did you get any explanation? From my research most things seem to be linked with the brain "/

Oh gosh I know how you must feel. My two cats passed last year (nothing remotely similar to your cat) but I'm getting two kittens next week. Please don't look into it too much, honestly the amount of research I've done when something's been wrong and you end up in more of a panic than you started with. Just keep an eye on her and go back to your vet if need be. I hope she's okay!

That's true researching has my head fried thinking and thinking hopefully it was nothing major and she's okay. But of advice for your kittens get per insurance! Seriously a must in situations like mine

Yeah my mum's got the pet insurance sorted, especially cus they're ragdolls. I was about to say they're indoor cats but obviously that doesn't make much of a difference! Sometimes feel like fresh air might do them good, investing in a lead haha!

insurance is dodgy.. my cousins have a dog that was from a rescue centre - nothing bad about it, just two little old ladies who owned it could no longer walk it. - its recently got some kind of skin condition where its loosing all its fur, and has to go to the vet for a special bath regularly - 3 times a week i believe.. and the insurance are refusing to pay because its a rescue animal, so now it needs to go somewhere for specialist treatment, and its not insured... so yeah waste of time insuring animals really, weve got a cat, never bothered to insure it.. until now the insurance would have cost us more than the vet treatments, and hes had a couple of operations.. so not worth it.. i know for a fact that one of these operations would not have been covered by insurance, as it was a hernia that he was born with... so my advice... tread carefully with insurers and declare EVERYTHING!

I think it had blood tests every couple of weeks, but most of them came back normal. Yeah the vet said it was probably something to do with the brain, in our case he seemed to go into a seizure anytime there was a repetitive noise in the room, kind of like audio epilepsy.

I would of thought that it was something she ate that has caused the seizures. Depending on how she is now, concider taking her to a different vet because i have often found doing this reveals the real cause!
We had a cat that was a wonderful companion, she suffered a few illness issues - one being a bizarre seizure. However, I think you should observe her carefully, watch her diet and provide 'plenty' of TLC!!!!!
Best of luck and I hope she makes a full recovery<3

I had a theory, I had just washed the floor and fed them she always eats with her paw (weird) and she would always drop it on the floor so could maybe this be a cause?? Maybe I use too much bleach?? I dunno just thinking of any possible way that won't cause long term damage

I agree with this. Being a indoor cat or not, it's possible that she had eaten something wrong. And you should take her to a different vet asap.
    Best wishes.

Re: My cat is sick HELP!
I'm an animal student, I'm not a vet but I have worked in a few. Seizures are usually signs of brain damage especially how you have described it! You do not get such severe seizures from food so ignore them comments, if it was food or anything else/mild poisoning your cat would just be ill and you'd notice a change in behaviour as well - not a seizure!

Your cat needs to have a scan! Without a doubt, go to a better vet who will pay more attention to this!! Your vet is obviously rubbish.
Also, if it helps, through experience I have found that older vets don't tend to pay animals as much attention, they get the animal in and out asap and get their money. It's as though they are just waiting for retirement lol younger vets tend to be more in touch with their job and use more up to date methods. Either way whoever your vet is, they are not giving your cat the correct treatment.

Also, some advice if it happens again - try and hold her down so she doesn't hurt herself, try to keep her airways clear as best as possible and constantly check her breathing. When she comes back round try to keep her stress levels down by not leaning over her.
Her body temperature will also be very high so she will need water. That also explains why she has been drinking more.

The vet has said its more than likely brain and there's not really much point doing scans to see if it's a brain tumor as they start from £1000 and there's nothing really to do after "/. She's currently on epilepsy tablets I haven't seen her take any seizures since however I've noticed she's a little less steady on her feet, she was doing a lot of sleeping but on some days she is quite active and seems herself. I think I might try her a few days off the tablets to see how she goes as I've heard of some side effects "/ but if she has another fit il put her back on them..

Please don't take her off of the tablets. They take time (several weeks) to build up to a therapeutic level in the blood and taking them off of the tablets can result in "rebound seizures". The side affects you may notice are her eating and drinking more and being unsteady on her feet and sleeping a lot which you have described. These side affects tend to decrease after being on the drugs for a week or two. Can I just check what drugs she is on exactly?

Don't attempt taking her off the tablets, otherwise this may interfere with the recovery! I am extremely sorry to here about what the Vet said and what troubles the cost of veterinary treatment causes!! No matter what the problem is, still provide with lots of TLC and try to make her feel really loved- that's what you'd want, isn't it?

    Best of luck once again

    My cat is sick HELP!
UPDATE! Only from research I found out that on epiphen med the cat has to have frequent blood tests to monitor levels in the liver..(I think). The Internet works wonders and I knew more than the vet..when I said this to the vet they said I was right and that she should of actually had them 2weeks after she started the med to make sure everything was a okay. Anyways she had bloods and few weeks back and everything was norm so I decided to ween her off the med down to half a tab a day (vet said he would not recommend) since then she has had no seizures I feel myself she is more lively not sleeping as much and back to her original self

If she has a seizure again, turn of the lights and make sure that she's on the floor - our cat had a seizure a couple of years ago (thankfully her only one) and that was what we were advised to do by the out-of-hours vet. I've just seen your most recent post though, and I'm glad your cat is OK. It's really scary when things like this happen.
