That's like saying don't get an Aston Martin (if it was affordable) as its engine is far too powerful and there's no need for it as the speed limit is 70mph.
Instead just get a 20 year old Peugeot then get an estate car when you grow up.

I've been working and saving a lot to get a new laptop and can afford an MPB with the student discount, isn't it worth it just for the aesthetics/ weight/ battery life?
No, it's like saying while you are a broke ass student get a cheap laptop, then when you have a job get a desktop which can either be cheap or considerably more powerful then the new Mac Book pro as you can get an OC 4.5ghz i7, more ram and considerably more powerful GPU.
I'm guessing you have **** all ideas as to PC components.

The battery life will be closer to 5 hours as 7 hours will probably work on very low screen brightness etc.
If you get a laptop for it's looks, then you are a tool. Its a piece of technology, not a ****ing medallion bro

Save yourself money. What you can save can go on a penis extension or whatever as thats what macs tend to be used for instead of, i dunno, a ****ing laptop

Will it be a lot better, I mean, will a typical user notice much difference? Just wondering if it's worth switching. I expect the Ebay price for the previous models has already gone down?

I find it hard to believe you have never paid extra for something on the basis of superficial reasons or that you would never do it. I would buy an overpriced BMW over a Ford if they did the same thing as long as I could afford it. I bought an iPod without even considering other MP3 players purely because its an iPod. People overspend for superficial reasons all the time. Yet for some reason its okay as long as its not a Macbook.

None of the changes would tempt me to buy one. If I was buying a MBP this week I would go for an old model, not the new one, but that's a personal choice :dontknow:

I was actually a little bit annoyed that they were announcing the new model as I only bought my MacBook Pro about 3 months ago, but now it's been announced, I'm actually quite happy that I went for the old one instead. Firstly, as there's no 13" model, I wouldn't have been able to afford one anyway, and secondly, the main reason I bought the Pro over the Air was because I wanted an in-built disk drive. (I watch a lot of DVDs/have lots of CDs)

Maybe a little bit, but you are paying almost £1000 extra, 66% of the price, just for looks. At least a BMW has the performance to back it up whereas the MacPro doesn't.

Considering it's a piece of technology that stays on your desk it's just an idiotic approach to take.

Unless you do video and photo editing you won't notice any difference as it's 99% about the screen resolution.

You should have knows that the Apple WWDC was coming up. :p: But the 13" is almost the same thing. Just a newer processor.

A BMW has the performance? :lolwut: BMWs are overpriced for what you get. They do look nice and have good prestige though. If Macbooks were cars, they would be BMWs.

    Really?

Much faster then a Honda civic, good mpg, smooth ride, all for 3k more. That seems very reasonable.

If a comparable BMW was 15k more, then sure you'd have a point. But they are not bro, they are not.

    Quite an aggressive response.
I'm not going to be using it for anything other than the standard so specs don't really matter, it's the overall package that I care about, and looks, weight, size, and resolution are a part of that.

With the student discount from Apple you can get a MBP for around 100 quid more than the laptop you linked, and in my opinion that's not bad value.

Just sayin it as it is bro
Why do you care about the resolution? Are you a video or photo professional?
Dont be a tool bro and just get the one that suits your needs, not your ego

I would say about 5K more actually. For similar mpg and a top speed increase by maybe 10 mph. If youre going to use the "youre not a photographer" argument then the same can be applied here. Are you going to use that BMW to race or break the speed limit x 2 just because you can? Anyway, I dont want to turn this into a car debate. Just about how people overpay for superficial reasons but no one cares unless its a Macbook.

Lad I was comparing the actual price so it aint 5k more.

The 0-60 is actually about 1 sec faster which is a lot and a much smoother ride so stop using a broken analogy bro.

You aint paying 60% more for a BMW over a honda civic, but you are for a mac over a normal laptop which does the same jobs. Deal with it yeah

Its not a broken analogy. Cars do the job of getting you from A to B. Just like how a Macbook will do the same job as a normal laptop. You say that you shouldnt overpay for a Macbook unless you are a photographer? Then that means you shouldnt overpay for a car unless you are going to race with it. Plus Macbooks do feel "smoother" for alot of people and it isnt 60% since the laptop you linked is £650 and people here use their student discounts.

Its a broken analogy because the price difference isnt there.
As a normal user you will never notice the extra ram, faster processor or the screen resolution. As a standard driver you will notice the smoother, quieter, faster ride.

Oh great subjective smoother. Try again bro I dont like the taste of bull****

Well actually, you're quite likely to notice those things from time to time. That doesn't mean the standard user needs them, of course.

How? Web browsing doesnt exactly take an i7 or 8gb of ram to do. The only time I notice my 8gb of Ram is when I'm doing a hell of a lot of intensive things at once, which the average user will never do.

You do notice the RAM and processor which is why people choose to upgrade theirs. How is noticing the speed of your computer abnormal?

Yes, just because a car feels smoother to you, doesnt mean its like that for everyone else.

Yeah, but the standard user will be doing more than just web browsing at any one time. Like I said, the difference wouldn't be enough to make someone buy it just for that, unless they needed the extra power, but that's not to say that you wouldn't notice it from time to time.
