Re: Accused of Plagiarism-Need advice!Listen.. it won't take too much time. It can be sorted out fairly quickly.(Original post by sanamoyeen)
Thanks PTK! Let's see what my tutor says tomorrow. I've also contacted the department head maybe he can help? I am just really stressed out about the situation and I want to do everything ASAP coz graduation is so close, and all this may take so much time that they won't let me graduate this year anyways!
Ask for appeal guideline - ie.who long will it take for your appeal to be looked at due to you havig extenuating circumstances - where you should really have not submitted you work but actually ask for extension of your assignment deadline.
Explain to them they have had no reason for concern with you until today which has been due to your health problems.
Tell them - that them what your doctor has said and tell them you can support medical evidence.
You will be nervous until tomorrow but you will be fine. - Good Luck.. You need any further help just contact me.Last edited by PTK; 13-06-2012 at 20:14. -
Re: Accused of Plagiarism-Need advice!
Hello There,
I am a student as well going through the appeal process for almost the same reason. I am also suppose to graduate next semester. Unfortunately, my first investigation hearing did not go as well. Which is why I am trying to appeal at the moment. The differences in my case is that I did get two science article summaries and placed them in my paper, properly cited. However, I honestly thought this was the correct way of using the sources. Now, this assignment was my first rough draft, this assignment was also for an "Incomplete" grade I received in the class for the prior semester due to the fact that my mother was diagnosed with cancer last semester and we were losing our home. The evidence that was brought against me in the investigation hearing was that my professor did have an online module that stated "taking large portions from articles and properly citing them is still considered to be plagiarism". However, since I was not present for a large portion of the class the prior semester. I honestly did not remember the online module and also, prior to all of this, my professor (the one who accused me) did try to re-install the online material which included the module but was not able to do so. I also wanted to make sure that what I did was maybe the incorrect way of doing this. So I was able to get my research program directors/professors (about three of them plus two whom I don't know, so they were the "neutral" reviewers ) to look at my paper and comment on anything. Literally all of them said the same thing "...the professor should have talked to you first, and explained what you did, this was your first draft".
P.S. How did the appeal process go for you?
