    Fe(III) in solution- violet or yellow?
    I'm a little confused as to what the colour of [Fe(H20)6]3+ is...my textbook says it's pale violet but then the CGP revision guide says it's yellow?

    I believe it's purple when pure, but the Fe(III) hexaaqua ion hydrolyses rapidly to produce a quantity of Fe(OH)3, which is brown, so a yellowish colouration is usually seen in aqueous solution.
