    Education:

    Extra Cirricular:

    Work Experience:

    Employment History:

    other:
Education: 7 A*s at A Level; Double Starred First at Cambridge; Distinction in the BCL at Oxford (why the f**k not?). Multiple academic prizes and a Scholar of their college.

Extra Curricular: Rowed in the Boat Race 3 times for Cam and once for Ox, also took a year out to compete at the Olympics where they won Gold; World Debating Champion; multiple Mooting wins at national level; President of the Footlights including taking an individual show to Edinburgh; Grade 8 in several instruments; Pro Bono President; successful Innocence project; chief pollster for Obama '08 and personally built several orphanages in Africa using only a teaspoon to dig the foundations whilst simultaneously teaching English to the local children.

Work Experience: 23 Vac Schemes; 7 mini pupillages; some Marshalling; 3 Spring Weeks at different BB banks (serious commercial awareness) and periods at the UN and ECtHR.

Employment History: Didn't get chance, too many internships and got money from the scholarships.

Other: Manages not to be a Grade 1 mega c**t who refers to themselves in the third person and last had normal conversation with another human being in the mid 1990s.

The above candidate might just scrape into a Top 20 firm.

You forgot to mention that Daddy manages the legal spend at a PLC that is unhappy with its current panel of solicitors.

In which case maybe something like this?

Education: Top Public School AAB, they did an excellent job of covering up them being thick as pigs**t; low 2:2 from RG in non-law subject.

ECs: Almost exclusively going out drinking. If female might help if she's fit.

Work Experience: At Daddy's PLC, various other places where Daddy's pulled strings.

Other: Immediate offer, after all bringing in work is what being a solicitor's all about!

Reminds me of one or two I've met.

NB Note to HR and Librarian.

Do not not use Fiona Plank-Thick to upgrade the loose leaf textbooks.

Education: AAB or AAA at A-level and a 2:1 or first from a top 20 university. There will be a lot of Oxbridge students (around 50% of Magic Circle trainees are Oxbridge, the proportion is slightly lower at other top 20 firms).

Extra Cirricular: Everyone will have some sort of extra-curriculars. Most people will have been involved with sport/drama/music/debating at university. A lot of people will have been travelling. A lot of people will have done charity work.

Work Experience: Many candidates will have done one or more vacation schemes at city law firms. Almost everybody will have some sort of legal-related work experience, even if was just a week in a high street solicitors or some time volunteering for the CAB or a few days shadowing a barrister.

Employment History: Some people will come straight from uni. Some people will have 1-2 years of experience in another career. A small number of people will have more than 2 years experience in another career.

I would guess that 90% of the trainees at top 20 firms have a CV fitting into this template. Some people might have more unusual CVs. The CVs of people at firms outside the top 20 will be less demanding.

Just a warning, though.. I received offers from two top 20 firms and a top 60 firm. The standard of candidate I met on the vac schemes were no different at all. I feel that to get a funded TC anywhere you have to be pretty top drawer.

    My profile:

    A-levels- ABB

    2years' management experience

Degree- 1st class BA non-law at Russel Group Uni

EC- did a consulting project on my dissertation; founded a successful uni society; edited a course magazine; organised; various charity work; brought in high profile outside speakers to give talks to the student body.

Sorry, ignore the ';' after organised.

In a addition, I had not a day of legal work experience before getting on all the vac schemes which produced these offers.

    Note also my 'substandard' A-levels.

cool im guessing that your first class degree was a major factor in securing vac schemes. what uni did u go to? and what degree did u do? if u dont mind me asking. do u think a numerate degree (like accounting) will put off alot of legal employers?

Actually, no. I didn't have my result when I applied or did the vac scheme where I accepted a TC.

I did IR and Politics- along with half the lawyers in the world it seems to me. Numerate/accountancy? No idea, fella, though you may have to justify why law over banking/accountancy..
