What is a good salary for the peak of your career?
i was thinking about this... what do you think is a good comfortable (not rich) salary to have at the peak of your career?

for you personally (realistically!) and for an average person

Hugely depends but for medicine, at your peak as a consultant/GP partner maybe £100000/£110000 obviously with lots of hard work and private work on top of your normal hours and on-call work. So it doesn't come easy, and you won't get this sort of salary until you're at least 40
What's with all the negs-you jelly?

it depends on your profession... for a footballer it would be £200k a week whereas for a doctor it would be £100000 a year.

I suppose to be comfortable as in I don't have to worry about money but not insanely rich. I'd say 30-45 grand.

My career varies hugely depending on what sector i want to work in and what country. It could be anywhere from 75k-100k as an NHS consultant here, to several hundred thousand as a private worker in Australia.

the peak is in your 30s and early 40s, should be around 100 - 200k for people that followed the traditional career paths. start on 25 - 35k when you are 22 - 25. if you follow an exceptional career path, your income is highly sensitive to your performance. some earn 3million by the time they reach the vp. after you turn 45, your performance decreases but your ability to influence others in work increases.

when you think about house prices in the uk, lets face it most of us want to own a house one day, 100k is a bit too short in the southeast. 500k house with 150-200k deposit paid by your savings, your and your partners parents. 300-350k into 15-25 years mortgage (25 being the standard). your cost of living only goes up with kids and all. yes you need more than 100k.

But a lot of people here dont include partners earnings, so two people earning 100k each is a lot of money lol

I'd say about 30K, it's easy to live off that, you can rent a nice place and have some left for holidays. I always think these kind of threads, which pop up frequently, are an easy way of spotting who here is lower/middle class.

I think the fact that your only aspiration is to rent is an easy of spotting that you're lower / middle class! Oh! Snap!

(I want to make absolutely clear that this is just a joke, and I don't think such banal things can be indicators of socio-economic status. It was just low hanging fruit and I had to go for it. I know you understand).

But seriously, I'm curious: do you think the lower / middle class people are those who aim really high? Or really low?
