Your thoughts on racism and discrimination
As a muslim I'd like to know why are so many people out there anti Islam, what have we done wrong?
As for the muslims I want to know why are you all against other religions, why do you muslims hold a grudge against other cultures?
I'm sure everyone here is matured enough to have a decent conversation without trying to rip each others throats. I'm so sorry if something like this had been on already. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationSo Islamophobia came about because of measures taken to combat the Islamophobia which didn't exist before then? Okayyyyy...(Original post by Kiss)
Stereotypes arise out of a minority of any group, but a lot of the dislike for muslims has arisen out of the measures taken against Islamophobia which have essentially tried to censor any criticisms of the religion.
I think racism is mostly ignorance tbh, our society operates in a way which makes it easy to differentiate between 'us' and 'them', and those groups can comprise basically anyone -

Re: Your thoughts on racism and discrimination
Don't confuse being anti Islam to being against Muslims. I hate what Islam is (as in the religion that says that every word of the Koran is true) but I do not hate muslims for being muslims. If I just met a muslim they would be neutral in my eyes until I knew them better, I would just hate the religion they follow but most don't follow it exactly anyway.
Maybe hate was a bit of a strong word but I certainly don't like the Koran.
EDIT: I expect a lot negs for this, which is fine but please reply to this if you do.Last edited by james22; 13-06-2012 at 17:15. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationYou mention in your question that you feel Muslims hold a grudge against other cultures, perhaps that is a reason why people of other cultures feel negatively toward Muslims.(Original post by Miss.someone)

Personally I have nothing against Muslims, but feel that the Islamic faith has been used to justify violence and hatred time and time and again. That's not to say I'm anti-Islam, just cautious and wary. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discrimination
Islamophobia could have something to do with muslims beating up non muslims that enter their areas, or perhaps the mass rape of thousands of non muslim children across the country? Or maybe 7/7? Or maybe the many (documented) mosques where anti-kuffar sentiments are preached?
Dunno. I'm sure it's the non-muslims that are "ignorant" and need to "understand the true Islam".

Re: Your thoughts on racism and discrimination
Ignorance, mainly. The media feeds what people like to hear, which is controversial acts by extremists. Nobody ever reads an article titled "Muslim dies after living a normal, charitable life". There are very few opportunities for the majority of people to learn about Islam other than the media, and that's the main reason for the hate.
Well you said it yourself. "Dunno". You clearly know jack all about Islam if you think the idea behind it is to beat, rape and kill.(Original post by Bonged.)

Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationLol. So we do need to understand the "true" islam? The irony is exquisite.(Original post by Junaid96)

Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationI sarcastically quote the stock muslim public relations response to criticism - "you are ignorant - you don't understand the true islam" and you just come out with the same stuff. Shooting yourself in the foot here. I bet I know more about your warlord prophet than you do.(Original post by Junaid96)
What irony.. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationWho's my warlord prophet? I'm confused. Just because you mention something sarcastically doesn't mean it's not true. You're just an ignorant racist who clearly loves reading the Daily Mirror.(Original post by Bonged.)

Someone who criticises Islam being called a racist? Well I never!
(I currently read the spectator) (I think you mean the Daily Mail) -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationNo, I think I meant what I said. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Mirror(Original post by Bonged.)

You presume a lot, and you're a pretentious bigot too. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationThat's silly then, isn't it? Because the Daily Mirror is actually a left leaning newspaper - so it's not "bigoted" (in tsr thinking). You meant the Daily Mail - which is widely presumed to be "bigoted".(Original post by Junaid96)

I am somewhat presumptuous I will concede. I'm presuming that you can't make the disconnect between criticism of a violent ideology (Islam) and being a "bigot". It was "racist" earlier. Make your mind up son. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationYou can be a bigot and a racist? And you're 22, hardly in a position to call anyone "son".(Original post by Bonged.)

So is criticising Islam bigoted or racist? Or both? Which would be odd cos I swear Islam is a religion not a race? Out of interest what is it when someone criticises Christianity? Christophobia? lol.
As has been established throughout our correspondence - I am intellectually superior to you. This gives me the right to call you son. Son. lol. -
Re: Your thoughts on racism and discriminationI believe you're at aberystwyth? Enough said. Picking me off on lexical technicalities hardly makes you intellectually superior, nor does it give you the right to call me "son".(Original post by Bonged.)

Tbh it was you thinking that the Daily Mirror is the paper of choice for bigots that got the stupid alarm bells ringing.
Answer the other points, or shuttupayourface. son.
