    English Lit Comparison Coursework
For the progression weeks we've begun to look at which novels we might want to do for our Lit coursework at A2 on AQA; I've managed to get it down to 10 novels, but I can't settle on just two or what to focus on. I've read some of them, most were recommended to me but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas that I could start with; the choices are:

    • 1984
    • Animal Farm
    • Heroes and Villains
    • The Handmaid's Tale
    • Oryx and Crake
    • A Clockwork Orange
    • Children of Men
    • The Passion of New Eve
    • Nights at the Circus
    • Rant

I would also prefer not to do 1984 with The Handmaid's Tale as it's a combination that's been a bit over done.

Ok. My friend did an excellent piece on Clockwork Orange and Fight Club.
I went abit out there and did Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and One Thousand Splendid Suns - I talked about perfect victims and got 29/30.

Make sure you pick texts you enjoyed - it'll definitely show in your writing otherwise. My other piece was just a boring poem, which I only got 25/30 for - I just didn't enjoy it and quite frankly found a Marxist reading very very dull!

    Hope that helps!

PS - don't do animal farm... its very very over written. Add something like Turn of the Screw in there

The Handmaid's Tale is a good one to do...according to my english teacher when we had to do our coursework.

Going over the options, I would quite like to do Heroes and Villains with 1984 but I'm not sure what question I would do as they're both very different and have little in common if anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

I did my coursework last year on The House of The Spirits by Isabel Allende and Lolita by Nabokov - the idea of sexual perversion. Can help a bit if anyone's interested. X
