I'm not denying it's a problem, but it's ALWAYS been like this. I think habbo was how I learnt was Cyber sex even WAS. (truth be told I thought Habbo was old news, didn't know people still used it!).

However this news story has just made me want to join it again and troll the peados.

no I mean the chat rooms MSN used to host.

MSN Chat has closed in the UK

As part of an overall effort by MSN and Microsoft to provide consumers with a safer, more secure and positive overall online experience, MSN has decided to no longer offer MSN Chat in the UK as of October 14 2003.

This change is intended to help protect MSN users from unsolicited information such as spam and to better protect children from inappropriate communication online.

MSN wants you to enjoy the Internet safely. Click here to find out more about how to help ensure your online experience is positive.

    Why has MSN done this?

The increase in abuse of the Internet, such as the massive growth of spam and the increase in unsolicited and inappropriate material, particularly with regards to children, has led us to this decision.

What other MSN services can I use?

MSN's vision is to offer its customers a choice of best of breed communication services
to help them better connect with the people and information that matters most wherever
    they are.

    couldn't find a link.

Same. Never seemed appealing either when it was finally explained.

so a little lego avatar probably operated by a horny 13 year old came up to the undercover producers little lego avatar and asked to see her boobs?

But seriously they can't expect a company to moderate every line of text? Presumably they already have a report function in place and if you trust your kid enough to let them have their own computer / use it in private you trust that they are smart enough to use it sensibly. Don't know enough about the site to judge if they are slacking when it comes to moderation but surely poor parenting is a bigger factor in people being able to exploit young children on sites like this?

Genuinely think I may have had a slight addiction to this game when I was younger.. does anyone remember the radio stations people used to set up? And then loads of people would listen to them and go to the same room and "dance". LOL. Good times.

But yeah there were definitely a few weirdos on it. I didn't really take notice of it though so I just carried on minding my own business trying to complete mazes or sitting in "casinos" begging for a throne:cool:

    this makes me lol

Habbo Hotel is and always will be, full of kids

I used to have so much fun getting rich by scamming everyone, it was so easy to get access to people's accounts by simply finding out their email address and birthday or using fake phising website

I bet it was since /b/ regularly decided to raid it that it's started getting pedophiles lol

omg that video haha "people were having sex with me, without my permission"

I used to go on Habbo when I was about 12 when I didn't have to worry about exams. I would simply avoid the dating chat rooms and concentrate on becoming rich instead, it worked. If someone was using sexually explicit language to me I could just press 'ignore' and no messages from them would appear on my screen. I'd then report them and they'd be banned. If they asked to see me on webcam I'd tell them where to go! Habbo doesn't allow kids around 9 to be on Habbo for a reason, they're too naive and would probably add anyone so I suppose the only thing that can be done to stop young children logging onto the site is if they parents watch them. Habbo do have a report feature and it works as in about an hour the paedophile is banned.

I'm not really sure how Habbo could tackle this issue, employ more moderators so they can moderate more text? Take down rooms that encourage sexually explicit language as soon as they see them?

Then again, my experiences from above were around 3 years ago so I'm sure things may have changed since then.

Habbo was nothing.. I remember being 10 and cybering on gaia online. Lol.

However, I seriously think it should be down to the parents to watch what thier children are doing online. They should send all thier kids to neopets. Neopets was great.

I first got it when I was 12, then returned a few years later - I felt old going on Habbo when I was 16

At one point I had four habbos on the go at once, used to pack a fallin' furni to be guaranteed the win - in theory. In practice however some HC member would rev me.
