Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Well, I am going to do pharmacy.(Original post by Nadindi)
I misread that first part as "I spent primary school buying friends with tablets", which was a little worrying! ... It's probably a technique that would work wonders with a certain crowd at university though
But no, I meant the kind of fudge. Mmmmm.

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Our chemistry class was awful last year. At the end of every term, after every test, after our mock exams, when we finished our investigations...out came the cake!! I wonder how much cake I've actually eaten this year. Our Maths teacher despaired of us as well. "No! We need to study, not eat cake!" "I think you'll find we've been in class for half an hour. *brings out cake and starts eating it anyway* Cake is compulsory." Haha, yeah it is. Well, I don't know. With my baking, it's as likely to kill you as not.(Original post by .snowflake.)
I know. I took two tins of fairy cakes in just before the end of term. My chemistry teacher was surprised I could bake. But baking is like practical chemistry, except in baking the products don't kill you. -
Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?I'd better get to work on creating some commandments then. I'm going to be a god at uni. If I learn how to cook something other than cake, macaroni cheese, and bacon.(Original post by Randomized)
If my uni experience is anything to go by, people love someone who can cook.
Some of the girls in our friendship group are really into baking and they were forever making us food, dinners, cakes etc. It was lovely

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?GCSE English. Hand coursework in on time, we got cake, end of term, we got cake... went a week without miss having to yell at us for being noisy, we got cake... A level german was pretty good for impromptu tea and biscuit/cake/ just biscuit lessons. The only reason we got tea is because theres four of us. It's easier to take 4 mugs, than it is 12 for say my bio class.(Original post by aspirinpharmacist)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Sounds like your school was pretty similar to mine! My Higher English class was the same a couple of years ago. On the last day before exams we had a huge feast. And then one of our teachers old pupils came in, chatted to us all for a bit then fell over into the table because she was ever-so-slightly wasted on her last day of school. Cake went flying. Haha, yeah, German as well. As long as we kept chatting away in German our teacher let us eat all the cake we wanted. There was 12 of us in my Maths class, we still ate loads of cake. Our Biology class only had 5, we got breakfast.(Original post by .snowflake.)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?It was usually a fri. morning when we got tea and biscuits, or a monday afternoon with miss. The problem was, we got a biscuit lesson with miss if we were doing some godawful piece of grammar. So at first it was like YAY! Biscuits. By the end of the year, Oh god, what grammar are you torturing us with today??(Original post by aspirinpharmacist)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Oooh. That's clever. And vicious. Bribing you with food before bombarding you with grammar. Cruel world.(Original post by .snowflake.)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?
I disappeared for like a week and I can't find anything, so if I ignored any replies it's cause I can't get TSR to tell me...
but I'm glad to know we are back with the cakes
^This makes me feel so much better(Original post by Randomized)
This is roughly how my freshers week went:
Spoiler:ShowSunday (move in day):
Collect keys, one of the JCR shows me around the hall
Put stuff in my room
JCR had got all of us who have arrived early sitting in a big circle around the field having a chat
Welcome party/meet and greet in the hall bar
Monday:
JCR take us into campus to get campus cards
Explore campus with people
Get food/costume from local supermarket
Went to a random kitchen and did predrinks with them, then went out
Tuesday:
Welcome lecture (first chance to meet people from course)
Explore city with people
Talking in kitchens
First fire alarm (great opportunity to talk to people)
Pre drink and go out
Wednesday:
Freshers Fair
Talking in kitchens
Was a UV night, so painting/writing funny slogans on everyones shirts.
Pre drink and go out
Thursday:
Fire safety talk (zzzz)
Went to different floors with a girl from my floor and introduced ourselves to people
Talking in kitchens
Predrink and go out
Friday:
Loan came in, so another trip to the city centre.
Talking in kitchens
Predrink and go out
Saturday:
JCR organised a BBQ on the field.
Night in talking in kitchens, then watching films and having a few casual beers.
Sunday:
First proper food shop
Talking in kitchens, had a lengthy fifa session with a few of the guys
JCR organised a pub quiz in the hall bar
Watched some films, then bed ready for my first seminar.
I had a brilliant week, each hall had a slightly different week but ours was voted Best Freshers week
Your hall may have a JCR like mine did, these are second years who lived in the hall last year. They will organise the events (not just in freshers but throughout the year) and help you settle in, but they do hang around a lot too. I've ended up becoming good friends with a few of them.
Whatever you do, DO NOT stay in your room. Get out there and find people. Everyone is scared they won't make any friends, so you can guarentee they will be approachable and friendly. Talk to as many people as possible, that way you've got the awkward first conversation out of the way and you can talk to them whenever you see them! Knock on doors and kitchens, even from other floors. See a group of people talking? Go over and say hi. See someone on their own who looks a bit lost? Go over and talk to them. One girl who i did this with is now one of my closest friends. Get peoples Facebook or mobile numbers so you can stay in touch and find out whats going on. Speak to people on nights out. I randomly bumped into a couple of girls on the first night, got chatting to them and again, they have become really good friends. I was shy as anything when i moved to uni but if i was able to do this, anyone can.
Don't panic if you don't have a settled group of friends within the first week. Just make sure people know you a. exist and b. are approachable and friendly and it WILL happen. I didn't meet any of my main friendship group until the end of first term, now i couldn't be happier.
It sounds like your freshers week is pretty much what I am hoping mine will be like, and I'm now hoping we have someone to push us along a little bit...

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?ooooh think i might have to steal this idea(Original post by DarkWhite)
I propped my door open with a crate of beer (and jaffa cakes); worked a charm
Not that I really spent much time in halls after my second week.

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?I am resisting. Simply cause I have no place to put it if I buy it now...and my mum convinced me that I should go and see my room before I buy a bunch of useless bedroom/bathroom stuff(Original post by knight9434)
Anyone brought stuff for uni yet??
I have several lists though!! OH and I have bought 2 awesome glasses/cups, I get really excited about buying stuff like that...
So, no. I really want to though.
Have you bought anything?
I agree with you here, I want to get involved in some sort of club...but it seems that the biggest ones are always the sports ones...and I haven't played any type of sports in years. Maybe I'll join a bowling one or something...;D(Original post by wolf-pack)
Do you have to be physically fit to join the sports societys? and has everyone played the sport before and really good at it? I'm not the fittest person but really want to get involved
As far as I know they welcome both newcomers to the sport and those who have played before
If that helps...

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?I'm not even starting university this year! I'm starting sixth form, I don't do any sports at the minute so I was just wondering if I needed to get myself a but fitter in order to prepare for the future societys i'm currently pretending I would be confident enough to join(Original post by miss_colourful)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?I've been buying a few things here and there. I've got all of my bedding and stuff like that, buying a television tomorrow. I thought that if I bought stuff here and there it would spread the whole cost across a couple of months(Original post by knight9434)
