Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Yeah my nerves are just ridiculous! Hoping to have the attitude by then of lets just do it. Even worse for my second choice because they don't provide accommodation so the first time I meet my house mates will be house hunting, which is weeeird! D: yes and I definitely agree with that, will hopefully not get too drunk first night but save it until everyone is ready for me to unleash the wreck that is me + vodka! :L(Original post by Batmonkey)
I know how you feel completely, I felt exactly the same last October! But remember pretty much everyone is feeling nervous, just be nice (obviously your not going to horrible) and ask where they're from, what subject they're doing and let conversation flow from there hopefully
but on the drinks front I'd Definitely recommend not getting too drunk especially on your first night, you don't want to be embarrassed and shy in front of your new flatmates

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?I would leave the door open whilst unpacking and just say hi or make small talk as people go pass.(Original post by britchick)
I want to break the ice and get to know the "neighbours" but I don't want to come across too keen/a weirdo.
Spoiler:ShowI asked my friends what they thought if I left my door open and invited others to come for tea and biscuits
and to get to know each other. They said I would be known as the freak from the very first day... Not exactly what I want if it can be helped. -
Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?haha yer it did seem a bit extreme, I did think ( and hoped) you were being sarcastic and joking(Original post by madders94)
If people actually exist like the way we were talking, I don't want to live in this world anymore. -
Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?No, but we were kind of split between her living room and kitchen because there was a lot of us, and someone walked in so we just went "She doesn't even go here!!" which was funny.(Original post by britchick)
That sounds fricking amazing! I hope somebody uninvited turned up and someone yelled "SHE DOESN'T EVEN GO HERE"

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Exactly! It's not a completely rubbish idea I reckoned(Original post by KateFlorence)
To be honest, if I saw tea and biscuits I'd be right in there. I'd probably even go the extra mile and do a spread of homemade cakes... But that's just me i.e. a loser
can't be helped.

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?
I unpacked, then went nextdoor, where my neighbour had left her door open and had a quick chat (I didn't think it weird, although i personally wouldn't have done it). Went to the freshers fair for a quick look around then went into the common room/kitchen when I got back and there were plenty of people in there so I started to chat. Try to talk to as many people as possible and not to constrict yourself to one group, and definitely make friends with your kitchen on the first weekend. In the evening, predrink and go out. Sorted.

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?As long as nobody repeated the story of when Gretchen got diarrhoea at Barnes & Noble I can assume it was a pretty amazing party.(Original post by aspirinpharmacist)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?
just talk to people. leaving your door open is cool too, but mostly you will all socialise in the communal area to begin with.
be friendly, be confident, and dont try too hard. take comfort in the fact everyone is nervous and excited and feeling a whole range of ****. freshers is the best, so just enjoy it

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Really? I thought all first years got priority in university owned student accommodation? Oh no Vodka is bad! some of my worst drunken mistakes have been under the influence of too much vodka and coke(Original post by ispymo)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?I have a question. It's alright to make out with your first cousin, right? Because you have cousins, and then first cousins, and then second cousins...(Original post by britchick)

I'm not living in halls and I'm fairly anxious in new surroundings partly coz I'm hearing impaired. But I don't want it to interfere too much with the social aspect of uni. I get 'early induction' so I'm get registered early and have orientation stuff over a 3 day period prior to when everyone else moves in with a group of other disabled students...but what else do I do to get to know people when they move in since I won't be in halls and might find it really difficult to just walk into some halls where people are moving in as I won't be moving in there :/

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Maybe look around for a large meeting place like a university canteen or cafe (or library for those checking out the facilities and getting straight to the business). And try signing up to lots of extra clubs and activities to meet people of a similar interest which will make it a lot easier talking to people!(Original post by hjradley1)

Re: What do you ACTUALLY do on the first few days of uni?Ah so do I! I really like my second choice, it's just the fact that it isn't a proper University puts me off(Original post by Batmonkey)
