Could I get food poisoning?
My friends and I had a BBQ today and we went to Iceland to buy some stuff to cook and we bought a pack of 50 (including chicken, ribs, sausages etc). My friend was cooking and said the chicken and ribs were done, but some of the chicken still had blood in it (but the meat was white not pink) so we didn't know if it was cooked or not. And I took a few bites out of one (that he cooked for a bit longer) and just before I finished it I noticed it wasn't chewy but it still had blood in it so I dunno if it was properly cooked. The ribs were also kinda chewy in a bad way, but maybe it was just me..could I get something like salmonella off the chicken?

Re: Could I get food poisoning?
I can't remember where I found the info however after I ate a raw egg (failed attempt at boiling it) they said the chances of getting food poisoning were 1 in 300,000. So I'm guessing your pretty safe, remember animals all eat meat raw and so did humans for millions of years, cooking it just makes it safer.

Actually, red meat was eaten raw and can still be today (hence why you can cook red meat 'rare').(Original post by lbsf1)

White meat however, such as chicken must be well cooked and cannot be safely eaten raw unlike red meat. -
Re: Could I get food poisoning?
If you get food poisoning you'll know pretty quickly, often within a few hours or during the night.
However, while meat like chicken must always be cooked thoroughly not doing so doesn't necessarily mean you will get sick. It sounds like you cooked the meat pretty much immediately after buying it so that will reduce the chances of getting anything nasty.
So basically, it does sound like the meat may not have been properly cooked but it doesn't mean you will definitely get ill. -

I think with chicken as long as it isn't pink you're ok. I'm also fairly sure that once it has passed the temperature used for pasteurisation (80 odd degrees?) then I'm sure it would be unlikely that you would get sick. I highly doubt you have food poisoning so don't worry
