Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroNot really though. Unlike Paul, Farrage and UKIP do not advocate massive cuts in defence spending and a totally non-interventionist foreign policy. In fact, UKIP want to increase defence spending - the complete opposite of what Ron Paul stands for:(Original post by subzero0137)
He's like the British version of Ron Paul!
Another difference between them is that Ron Paul realises that the best way to achieve change is not to try and gain support for a small, minor party, but instead to change the mainstream Right party from within - where as Farrage, unlike Hannan, doesn't seem to realise this.Over the years, successive governments have starved the British armed forces of money. This has meant insufficient equipment, overstretched resources and excessive tours of duty, which can badly damage the fabric of family life. UKIP has huge regard for our Armed Forces and the work they do. We are prepared to provide proper defence resources and bring an end to devastating cuts. UKIP will:
· Spend an extra 40% on defence annually, another 1% of GDP
· Restore the Royal Navy to its 2001 strength with three new aircraft carriers and nearly 70 other ships, at the same time guaranteeing the future of the Plymouth, Portsmouth and Rosyth bases
· Increase RAF capability by buying more essential helicopters, transport aircraft and 50 extra JSF Lightning aircraft -
Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroNot wrong there, how she's still an MP is extraordinary.(Original post by anonstudent1)
I just want to slap Diane Abbott every time she speaks. -
Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroTrue. But didn't UKIP oppose military intervention in Libya? Also, apart from the Libertarian Party, I am not familiar with any other British political party which could be considered even remotely libertarian.(Original post by Super Cicero)

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroWas it true what he said about social housing? I thought that if the person comes from an EU member state they can be treated no differently to someone born to parents with British passports, it's different if they come form elsewhere I know, but if I wanted to tomorrow I could move to Finland and I would be just as entitled to their awesome social housing as a native Fin.(Original post by f1mad)
LOL and how's that going for Ron Paul?(Original post by Super Cicero)

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroI don't particuarly like Ron Paul and I disagree totally with his foreign policy/ defence policy, so I cba really to stick up for his strategy, but from his point of view, in the long run his strategy is working. When he ran as the Libertarian Party candidate for president he got a mere 431,750 votes. In the 2012 Republican primary he got 2,028,830 votes, but more significantly, around half of all young Republicans voted for him in the primary. These younger libertarian voters are going to grow up, while the older social conservatives die off. So through pure demographics, the Paulites are going to eventually take control of the GOP if trends continue.(Original post by TheHansa)

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroIt might be good for keeping America's collective nose out of trouble but I'd say that Ron will die and the personality he has built up will be dispersed.(Original post by Super Cicero)

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a Hero
I really don't know what to make of UKIP. They are incredibly sensible in some regards and are clearly willing to just get down to work and do what needs to be done to make stuff work, but for some insane reason they present themselves as more angry and right wing than they actually are! In many regards they're a respectable and valuable political party, but they pretend not to be! Farage is great and I think it's brilliant that someone is willing to basically insult stupid people on an international scale, but something about it makes him seem like a political extremist which he clearly isn't!

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroThis. This is my views. Pretty much summarized.(Original post by MrHayden)

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a HeroYeah you could be right, especially since his son Rand Paul, who was once seen as being the heir to the libertarian movement within the GOP, has endorsed Romney for president and is therefore seen as being a traitor by most of the Paulbots. With no clear leader it could all just fall apart.(Original post by TheHansa)

Re: Nigel Farage - You are a Hero... Admittedly, having said that, they do deny that global warming is happening at all, and (from what I recall hearing a few years ago) want to return power to the Church. Those are pretty damn stupid. But economically, my point stands!(Original post by MrHayden)
