How do you stay motivated?
I've become a bit health obsessed this past year & I've been eating a lot healthier than I used to. However I live at home with my parents (going to uni in Sept) and I find it so hard not to eat unhealthy things when they but them in. Any tips??
Also, how do you stay motivated to exercise? -
Re: How do you stay motivated?
Set goals with exercise or do it competitively.
For a female set a few strength goals in the gym and set a goal for a 5k fun run or something...if you achieve both you should be in good shape.
Strength goals could be
squat 70-80kg
bench 50kg
deadlift 100kg
5k...I'm not sure what a good 5k time, but maybe do that couch to 5k programme and work from there.Last edited by McHumpy92; 14-06-2012 at 09:11. -
Re: How do you stay motivated?
The usual.. have photos of yourself around to remember why you want to do this. Ask everyone to try and keep their junk somewhere you don't have to look at it. Find a friend who will work out with you as you can then keep each other motivated.
But the one thing I've learned over my many MANY failed attempts at getting fit and healthy is that if you don't REALLY want to do this, for yourself, then it's just never going to work. You have to want it, and you have to have that motivation and determination inside yourself right from the beginning. -
Re: How do you stay motivated? This. A couple of months back I hadn't done any exercise of any kind for months to years, and then only say a bout of a month a couple of times since my teens. Now I feel fat and lazy any day I don't do some kind of exercise. I'd probably feel better about rest days were I only training for a 10K, but I also still have some excess fat I want to get rid of and I know that only doing the runs and one or two trips to the gym a week aren't going to get that shifted unless I get OCD about my calorie intake, which I don't want to do due to me needing to make sure I get enough for the running.(Original post by HFerguson)
how do you stay motivated to breathe? exercise is no different to me now.

Re: How do you stay motivated?I used to be overweight and hated exercise all through my teens, but then something just clicked one day, and I was hooked. I actually get phantom pains when I stop exercising! If you can be addicted, I'm definitely addicted. Just can't live without it.(Original post by Ronove)

It's just one of those things I seem to find naturally enjoyable now, akin to eating or ****ing. -

I used to be quite overweight, but I started exercising to lose it and it's starting to get where if I don't exercise everyday, I feel guilty and like a slob lool. -
Re: How do you stay motivated?
I keep thinking about my goals and the progress I've made so far. When my motivation is at its lowest, knowing that I have already improved tells me I am capable of more.
Instead of eating the junk your parents buy (I know how annoying this is, my family do it too), make some green tea/drink some water/eat an apple.
As long as you have some self-control you should be in a much better position when you go to university. All the junk I eat is when I'm with my family, in term time I never buy it so can't eat it.Last edited by alafolie; 16-06-2012 at 23:08. -
Re: How do you stay motivated?
I genuinely enjoy running and swimming so I'm lucky that exercise doesn't feel like a chore for me. I don't drive either so I have to walk everywhere which is also helpful. At first I HATED lifting weights but I stuck it out by going to classes with other people and once I noticed my body changing and getting stronger, that was all the motivation I needed. Such a good feeling having to move the strap on my armband up a notch

Food-wise, my dad is diabetic and my mum loves to cook so I've just grown up eating generally healthy foods. Yeah I enjoy eating crap from time to time (there's actually a chocolate orange calling my name as I speak) but I know it doesn't matter if I treat myself once in a while. Seriously, having a bit of chocolate or a muffin or a pizza every now and then isn't going to make you put on weight or get fat. -
Re: How do you stay motivated?
Through experience, exercise keeps me motivated to avoid eating unhealthily. If you've exercised to a sufficient level during the day, eating unhealthy foods just seems unappealing.
Also, concentrate more on exercise; so eating unheathily on occasion is somewhat justified. -
Re: How do you stay motivated?
If i let my diet and exercise slip then i end up needing a lot more sleep, considering i get by on 5 hours sleep right now, and i used to sleep for 11 hours, even after exercise i still have more hours in a day.
more hours in a day means more time for fun
...yeah that's my motivation.
