Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard? The guy asked a question, I answered it. Would you prefer me to say "It's just impozzible! LOLZ"?(Original post by desijut)
You're overthinking it by a mile. I passed a few months ago, 4 minors and my manouvre was.... Reverse around the corner lol (and emergency brake)
I can do it fine (depending on which side of the "should you use side mirrors?" debate you stand on
), but reverse around a corner took me probably about 4 times as long to get the hang of as the other two manoeuvres, so I guess I'm one of those people who found it difficult.
My test is on thursday, so will have to wait and see which manoeuvre I get.Last edited by Svenjamin; 23-06-2012 at 13:05. -
Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard?By people you mean women, right?(Original post by Runninground)
I just make sure I can see the curb in the mirror, then use it to judge how far away I am, whilst also looking around the car.
What do you find hard about it?
(You tend to get a bit worried when lots of people struggle with it and you don't...) -
Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard?
I found it difficult because if my instructor felt I was going too close to the pavement she would shout 'CORRECT THE MANOEUVRE, CORRECT THE MANOEUVRE!'. Then if I did it wrong she'd make me start again even if there were people trying to get past me.

Yh some corners are 90 degrees, but it is all depending on judgement(Original post by Converse Rocker)
I always found really sharp bends the worst, and having to judge when I needed to put the full lock on instantly.
I swear some of the corners on the estates are like 90 degrees.

Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard?
I found it difficult to start with and always used to 'wriggle' into the road (like going one direction, getting too close so going the other way, then being too far out) because my co-ordination was terrible. But I practised lots and lots and now I'm pretty good at it, although I agree that it is pointless and I'll probably never use it after my test.

Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard?
I find it the easiest manouver
Parallel parking on the other hand..... D= On my fist mock test (i've had two) I tried to do one and then this grumpy old man pulled up very close behind me leaving me very little room and totally put me off. Ended up making a massive pigs ear of it. My instructor said the guy was a dick, but that I should still have been able to do it. Lots of people in the area I will be taking my test apparently hate learners, and do mean things to disrupt their lessons all the time (I've experienced this on several occasions!). If someone does this to me on my test I will NOT be impressed

Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard?
The parking issue came up this week on the BBC and I was invited to speak on local radio
The first point I made was the social awareness that ladies have over men so ladies tend to worry about what others are thinking when doing certain things on the road and it is that in many cases which causes the poor performance -
Re: Why do people find reversing around the corner so hard?I live two houses in from the end (nearest the main road) of my street, which is a dead end. If people are visiting/picking up/dropping off it's easier to reverse round the corner and pull up than to drive down the street, turn round and drive back.(Original post by Keckers)
I'm still struggling to think of any situation where you'd have to reverse around a corner other than pulling into a drive way, which is completely different anyway.
