Training Contract with low Commercial Law result
    Hi all!

I recently received my 2nd year results and achieved an average of 64.7. The breakdown of my results were a 71 in Criminal Law, 68 in EU Law, 66 in Land Law, a 61 in Advanced legal method and a 47 in Commercial Law. I aspire to be a corporate lawyer and I was wondering whether my low result in commercial law will hinder my chances of attaining a training contract at a corporate law firm.

    All responses will be appreciated

I think its unlikely to be a large factor. Your average grade is a pretty good which is the most important thing (the reputation of your uni is also important). It is more important to have a reasonable grade in contract than in commercial.

However, I would expect to be asked why your commercial grade was lower in your interview.

Thank you very much for replying. Well I achieved 57% in contract in my first year of study, to be honest I don't know if that will be deemed reasonable. I attend Oxford Brookes university and I failed to attain a vacation scheme. How would you rate my chances?. Knowing the harsh truth will help me

Difficult for me to say, I don't really know. The very top firms might be out of reach but it sounds like you would have a good chance of a TC at a decent firm, assuming you have a few extra-curriculars and can write good application.

Thank you very much, the only extra-curricular activity I have taken part in is Mooting. I will target mid size commercial law firms
