I don't like 3D

Whether you think cinema died with Hitchcock or only got good once Michael Bay started blowing up helicopters, this is the place where moving pictures are discussed.

    I don't like 3D
Is there anyone else that actually prefers watching movies in 2D even if the option of watching it in 3D is given? I really don't see the appeal of it. It doesn't really immerse you in the film, it kind of does the opposite, since wearing those uncomfortable glasses makes you aware that you are sat in a cinema. It doesn't even make the film 3D either, all it does it make certain things pop out of the screen every now and then. The '3D' bits of the film just feel forced and detract from the experience. Not only that, but it after a while it hurts my eyes and gives me a headache.

I always go to the 2D showing, reason being I have a lazy eye and a very reduced level of stereoscopic 3D vision ... which is what 3D films take advantage of to produce the 3D effect.

I think it annoys my friends though, because it's often said, "Ooh, it's in 3D, we can go to that ... actually, no, wait, we can't, Rose's with us."

I already have glasses and they are quite thick framed so I essentially have to wear two sets of thick glasses which not only makes me look ridiculous (unimportant anyway as it's in the dark) but is also quite uncomfortable.

Depends on the film. Post production 3d tends to be garbage, but if its filmed on proper 3d cameras and such it tends to be pretty good.

For a lot of movies I think they're unnecessary. You get practically the same experience in 2D for many films.

Yeah I wear glasses too so the 'double lens' doesn't kinda ruins it for me. Furthermore, cinemas and films are so rediculously expensive nowadays that I begrudge paying 2 pound extra for a 3D film and more for glasses - especially when the film is rarely 100% in 3D. Yeah I always go 2D.

2d is much more relaxing imo, which is why I go to the movies.

I hate this 3D culture, it is just a money making gimmick. I went to see Avatar in 3D because that was the main feature of why it was made and I did enjoy it. However watching the film later on DVD, it is pretty easy to see that the 3D was just a cover up for a terrible and average storyline. Now every film that comes out has a 3D double and most of them are either down in post production, so less effective, or are used because the film would suffer on it's own. I want to go to see films with great storylines and cinematography that suck you up into their world not to get a headache and be bored for 2 hours.

I prefer 2D, plus it's easier to snuggle without glasses. (as in one person's head on the other's shoulder - what were you thinking? )

it depends on the file types.

I believe exploring kind of films do great in 3D then 2D, while some artistic ones, 3D doesn't make a difference at all.

I have a turn in my eye so all 3D does is make me have headaches and make me see double.

3D is good when it's done well (as Aj12 points out) in films such as Avatar, Hugo and Prometheus. Generally however, I will always opt for the 2D version of a film.

Thankfully my local independent and foreign film theater does not offer a "3D" option

3D really seems like a gimmick, as there aren't enough films that incorporate it well. Tbh until there's glasses-free 3D, its just not worth it, especially because its so uncomfortable wearing the 3D glasses on top of my normal glasses

If you can't make it good, make it 3-D.
