3 languages- 1 post A-level.
Hey guys,
I'll be applying, in September, to different Universities and I've searched tirelessly for Universities that will allow me to study 3 languages with only one post A-level (French).
So far I've only came across Essex, but when I e-mailed them to clarify, they almost dodged my question about the major vrs. minor weighting of the degree.
Could anyone suggest any other Universities, or clarify my questions to Essex?
If it's important, the languages I'd like to explore at a major-major-minor weighting (if possible at all) are French, Spanish and Italian.
Thanks in advance! -
Re: 3 languages- 1 post A-level.I think you can at the university of Portsmouth because at first I was thinking of doing 3 languages too. There were more that allow you than these two but I can't remember the rest - sorry :|.(Original post by L'onclesoul)

Try using the ucas search website or something (I can't remember how i found mine) and check all universities that offer languages individually.
P.s. I was advised to not do 2 languages like that because it would be too hard. But if you really want to do it then ofc go for it. Plus french, spanish and italian are meant to be quite similar so that will help you

Re: 3 languages- 1 post A-level.You will choose any three languages from across the School; two of these will be your 'major' languages and one will be your 'minor'. The major languages will take up the majority of your study time, and you will spend your year abroad in countries in which these two languages are spoken. The minor language will take up less of your time, but you will still work towards a high degree of fluency.http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/slc/undergraduate/bamlRequired subjects: French, German, Spanish or Russian at A Level

I'm in love with you two.

Re: 3 languages- 1 post A-level.
I think Durham might also offer this. I previously emailed Sheffield to make sure and they were able to confirm that for me, but I didn't with Durham.
We offer post A-level courses in French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. These courses are open to students who have an A-level (at least grade B) or equivalent qualification in that language. We also offer beginners' courses in Arabic, Italian, Spanish and Russian. Italian, Russian and Spanish beginners completely merge with the advanced stream in the final year. Options are available in Croatian with Serbian (these may be available to students of Russian only), Catalan and Persian.http://www.dur.ac.uk/courses/2012/in...e=BA&year=2012You might choose to study three languages (chosen from Arabic, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish). You study the languages in equal proportions (2+2+2) in each year. You can combine any three languages, providing that you do not begin more than one of them at beginners' level in the same year. It is not possible to begin any new language in your final year.
I believe you'd need to email them just to clarify this, but from what I can see it does allow you to study three languages with one language A-level as long as you don't pick up more than one new language in one year. So basically the same as Sheffield.
Just remembered the major-major-minor jazz, it appears to be 2+2+2 but I'm not sure if that implies you'd major in all three or not.Last edited by overskrill; 14-06-2012 at 21:11. -

I'm going to Bangor in September and i am pretty site they do it; and if you have quite high grades Bangor is a good university and wouldn't be bad as an insurance
