Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?
Hello,
I will be applying for German this year and all the universities that I've looked at and like all want 'BBB/ABC'. I've looked at uni's with lower grade boundaries but I'm not keen on them to be totally honest, and the higher grades I wouldn't make (stupid Biology -.-) So I just wondered is it possible that your firm and insurance are the same grades?
Thank you

They can be but what would be the point
If you did not get the grades and your Firm did not want you why would your Insurance take you
Clearly they might but there is limited chanceLast edited by TenOfThem; 17-06-2012 at 12:13. -
Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?
I would really REALLY recommend having an insurance choice with a lower grade offer. That is, after all, the point of an insurance choice.
I do know people who put down two universities which wanted the same grades, missed the grades and ended up having to go through clearing. Fortunately it worked out fine for most of them, but it was stressful at the time.
Surely it would be better that your insurance choice was still somewhere that you actually wanted to go, rather than chance it through clearing. -

Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?
Well if there isn't an lower grade choice for your course that you would be happy going to then why would you put it down? If you would prefer to take a gap year and re-apply for a different course or do resits, then stick with your five courses of the same grade.
Are your offers realistic for you? I know people who put their insurance with a higher grade than their firm but they were sure they would get the firm in reality. -
Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?
Somewhere like Chester might be a good option. According to the Guardians league table (however much you trust them) they're 35th for languages. It says on the website they want A minimum of 240 - 280 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent, including a grade C or above in GCE A level German.
Or Portsmouth (I went to look round the uni back when I was choosing my options and it's a really nice place.) It says they want 200-280 points from 3 A levels or equivalent. So quite a big range.
Obviously those are just examples, but I would recommend going for a visit to any places that interest you. I mean, I didn't even consider Liverpool until a friend recommended it after he had visited, and I ended up there! -
Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?Yea mine are my firm is Nottingham Trent and they want 300 even though i am predicted 280. My Insurance is Kent university and they also want 300. I didn't choose the others because they were just terrible and i didn't get an offer from UEA :l(Original post by RosieInWonderland)

Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?Yeah I was considering Chester tbh as they came to a progression event at my college but I'm unsure as to whether I want to apply to them but it definitely is a possibility(Original post by LTC1409)

Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?Oh I hope you get what you need! I just don't want to apply to a uni which I don't want to go to because there's no point if you aren't going to enjoy it! What do you want to study?(Original post by Setsuna-F-Seiei)

Yes you can,but i wouldn't recommend it. If they are the same, then if you miss your grade you'll have no back up. Your 1st choice is more lenient if you miss your grade by a lil bit, but the insurance isn't. This definitely means that you'll have no back up if you slip up. I made a similar mistake as my insurance is only 20 lower than my 1st. Look around for similar courses or other unis that offer lower grades that you don't think is completely awful. Remember, the insurance is a back up,its there so if you slip up you still have a say where you go! Even if your insurance isn't your cup of tea,its better than scrambling through clearing(god forbid you miss out on your firm) and bein left with a course and uni you would never otherwise go!(Original post by RosieInWonderland)

Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?
hmm, well, you could have an insurance with the same grade requirement but which is more likely to let you in if you miss your offer.
Don't feel obliged to have an insurance if you're confident you'll make your offer. I didn't have one. Lots of people don't/ didn't have one.
This obviously can't be stated absolutely as a rule. Uni's setting the same grade requirement doesn't necessarily mean that they have the same level of demand for their course. If uni I has less demand for its course than uni F (or the same demand from a lower quality of student), it may be more lenient.(Original post by Ps3SuperSRG)

Re: Does it matter if the Uni's you apply for all want the same grades?Liverpool is an awesome place to be a student. Great social/night life and uni is fab. I did geography. Really enjoyed my time there. I miss being a student. If you want any more info about Liverpool (the uni of) feel free to PM me.(Original post by RosieInWonderland)

I don't know that much about Chester uni, but Chester itself is nice. Lots of nice pubs. Only 40 minutes away from Liverpool too.
If you like Liverpool as a place, and want an insurance choice in the same city, you could always opt for LJMU (I don't actually know if they do languages there).
Good luck.

Kent seems like a really good uni!
Thanks for the help, that's really interesting I didn't realise you didn't have to have an insurance but at my college I think they make you put down an insurance, but thanks anyway(Original post by TimmonaPortella)

Oh thank you so much! I always go to Liverpool with my family so I know my way round so it would be less scary and I love it as a city, and I am a big Beatles fan!!(Original post by LTC1409)
