Body fat can easily be turned into muscle
Just stop talking. -
Re: Hate being skinny! If I acted upon my feelings every time somebody said the words "you can turn fat into muscle" I would have thrown myself in front of a car, or thrown someone else in front.(Original post by es.c)
It is, well at least amongst all the guys I've known who are normal build guys. Body fat can easily be turned into muscle as long as you eat protein and do weight training at least 3 times a week. I guess because I'm more in contact with youths my age, looking hench is what people want to be, but I guess for older people, theyd rather lose weight. This is The 'Student' Room so I assumed the majority of readers would be around my age
You can't do it! Please, I beg you, stop perpetrating this madness! -

As in the process is protein builds muscle, and the exercise burns the fat...(Original post by zjs)

Useful input you had to the convo (Y) -
Re: Hate being skinny! Please explain how protein building muscle and exercise burning fat allows you to arrive at the conclusion that fat becomes muscle.(Original post by es.c)

I could either say "the protein you eat from food helps build muscle from the exercise, and the exercise then burns fat so long as you work at a specific heart rate"(Original post by zjs)
Please explain how protein building muscle and exercise burning fat allows you to arrive at the conclusion that fat becomes muscle.
Or summarize it as an overall process whereby:
"Fat becomes muscle". Although not true, dont you agree its quicker to write that and that only a small portion of society would try to act clever but essentially look stupid by trying to burn someone on the basis of those three words?
By the way who are you? Lol -
Re: Hate being skinny!Wait, what?(Original post by es.c)

It's not 'quicker to write' because what you're writing is neither true - as you are now admitting - and nor does it encapsulate the point that you claim you were trying to make. -
LOL. Do you read forums only to pick at these minor things? Advice for the OP would be nice, not trolling about. I always find it amusing when a conversation flows and then someone, somewhere pops up to give irrelevant input. Makes my day;I love people like you(Original post by zjs)
Wait, what?

. Good day, and keep up the helpful work (Y)

Re: Hate being skinny!Your "summary" was wrong. Your expanded point wasn't correct - you do burn more fat in heart rate ranges but it's irrelevant what gets burnt if at the end of the day, you've eaten more calories than you've burnt. He didn't pick at a minor thing, almost everything you said was wrong. Sorry.(Original post by es.c)

Haha, another one. It is relevant as to what gets burnt because you'd want to burn fat so would work at 60-80%, this is on the basis that you want to put on muscle, rather than fat. So you're saying that in the "summary", you don't gain muscle by the digestion of protein and over-use of muscle, and that you dont burn fat when exercising in a specific heart range..?(Original post by tooosh)

Re: Hate being skinny! For some people, it is actually quite hard to gain weight. This could be down to a number of factors. I know I'm thin and want to gain weight too, or even muscle mass. No matter how hard I train or eat, my body still stays the same. When the original poster of this thread says "she/he wants to become fat", i think she/he is merely saying she/he wants to gain a little fat"(Original post by Arva)
Why in hell would anybody in their right minds want to get fat?
I have nothing against overweight people, some find it really hard to lose weight. However I simply can't understand somebody wanting to become fat.
In this day and age, everything tells us to be healthy and most shops will contain a "less fat" product next to a normal product. We just want to be normal (i.e. not under-weight or over-weight) -
Re: Hate being skinny! You're not completely wrong, but you haven't got the concept of macronutrients down. In the short term you will burn more fat by working in a specific heart rate range but if you eat more calories than you consume, you'll put that fat back on very quickly. In the long term, if you work at a higher heart rate to burn more calories, you might take more energy from glycogen stores and blood sugar while you exercise, but you will lose more fat overall afterwards.(Original post by es.c)

Quit it with the "ha another one" and "irrelevant" comments. Big man... -
That's a fair point I guess, but I was stating it in terms of a months worth of exercise, so short term, and you were looking at it in long terms. And sorry if I annoyed you(Original post by tooosh)

Btw did you do sports science? -
Re: Hate being skinny!Actually I'm considering short term as by day, or even as short as the few hours after exercising, and long term by weeks and months.(Original post by es.c)

I don't do sports science, it's just stuff I've learnt by general research.
And it's alright haha. Just be a bit more cool about criticism
-
But judging by your knowledge, you must have some link to fitness? Maybe proffesional trainer or something?(Original post by tooosh)

Re: Hate being skinny! No, just reading. All the information is on the internet, it just takes you wanting to find it to learn it!(Original post by es.c)
