London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by police
"A London tourist had his car blown up by anti-terrorist officers after it broke down - and he was also given a parking ticket.
Nima Hosseini Razi, 32, said his Ford Mondeo had broken down in early hours of Wednesday close to the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.
He said he had left a note on the car to say: "This car is broke. Please do not fine me," before going sightseeing.
But when he returned hours later, "the boot was blown off".
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We can confirm there was a suspect vehicle at Storey's Gate at 10.20am on Wednesday and a controlled explosion took place... the incident was subsequently deemed as non-suspicious."
Westminster Conservative Councillor Daniel Astaire said: "On this occasion the driver was parked in a very dangerous place, on yellow lines, so police instructed our parking attendant to issue the driver with a ticket.""
Saw this, just browsing through BBC news...................imagine that though, leaving your car because it was broken and leaving a note, but coming back to find it even in a worse state :/ And to top it off he was fined
Clearly the police are going to spend quite a bit of tax payers money to correct

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeIt's one thing to check for explosives. Completely another to carry out a 'controlled explosion' in the process.(Original post by fuzznbass)
So they should have just the left the car then and not checked for explosives etc ?

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeBecause a note is reason enough ? come on, they have to take these things seriously(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeOh if it had a note on it that's fine. Couldn't possibly be a lie.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeThe explosion was to check for explosives funnily enough(Original post by Wizz09)

They should..............just in this case they got it wrong..........just saying he clearly hasn't done anything wrong and the met are looking at giving out compensation(Original post by curtis871)

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeOhh it had a note! That definitely means there's nothing dangerous doesn't it?(Original post by Iqbal007)

I don't agree with how they handled the situation but on the other hand they need to make sure it was safe... maybe they could have found a better, "unexplosive" way. -

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by police
I saw this earlier. The headline is a little extreme considering the fact that only the boot was removed and windows put through.
In any event, the tourist is to blame. His story does not make much sense either. The article says that having broken down, he left this note on the windscreen:
He then decided to go sight seeing. This odd since he would need to be present when the AA arrived and I am sure that they would not be happy with waiting around for him to return from whatever landmark he was having his picture taken with."Dear Sir or Madam, this car is broken. I am just waiting for the AA to arrive. Please do not fine! Thank you, yours sincerely."
Had he stayed with his car - which was the sensible thing to do, he would have been fine. -
Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeI never said they shouldn't................i'm just pointing out that they have got it wrong in this case and I wanna see how much there gonna pay out....plus their comment.(Original post by fuzznbass)
No they should always check, otherwise lives are at risk -
Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeThey haven't got it wrong, as someone pointed out the owner should have stayed with the car and rang for help.(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeLet's be reasonable here, "It's broken, please don't give me a ticket whilst I go off sightseeing" is a crap excuse and he deserved to be fined. Also, let's be reasonable here, blowing up the car was a brilliant idea(Original post by Iqbal007)

Re: London tourist's illegally parked car blown-up by policeThe police have got it wrong in terms of blowing the boot to pieces and smashing the window.........so basically overdoing it when their were no explosives.(Original post by fuzznbass)
They haven't got it wrong, as someone pointed out the owner should have stayed with the car and rang for help.
