Going to a gig on my own?
Evening folks,
So a pretty low-key rapper from America is coming to play at a small venue in Manchester in a few weeks, and i have no-one to go with at all.
Has anyone ever been to a gig on their own before?
I really want to go and see him, but i'm not sure it'd be much fun on my own...

Re: Going to a gig on my own?
Who is it, out of interest? But it's totally fine to go on your own. Loads of people do it, I've never been to a gig where some people haven't been there on their own and anyone really into music will be forced to as it's impossible to have an endless supply of friends into the same music and willing to go anyway.

Re: Going to a gig on my own? It's a guy called Hopsin, far from my usual genre of music, but there's something about him that i really like. Especially as i've been following his music for a while now and he's at such a small venue.(Original post by Ryan_94)

That's good to hear, and indeed, that's very true! thanks -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?
ive been to a 2 on my own this year for the first time, as iv decided not to let my friends hold me back from doing something i want to do. i wanted to go to the kerrang tour and it was a last minute decision so no-one was able to go with me as the one friend who would have was gonna be coming home from lanzarote that day, and the second gig was the day after - i had a free ticket to shinedown & Halestorm from spending my hmv points and again no-one was able to go with me so i went off happily on my own to it.
it was completely fine going alone, no-one really cares if you go to a gig alone tbh, i even made friends with a few people on way to the shinedown one so had a great time with them (one lady i befriended was older than me and had her daughter with her, who was about my age and upon hearing i was alone instantly decided she should look after me.lol). at a lot of gigs that i go to i end up separating from friends for one reason or another, which is usually when i meet random people and have a great time anyway, so if you want to see this rapper i would definatley say go for it and have a great night

Re: Going to a gig on my own?I agree. I'd rather go alone, than not go at all and have to miss out just because I couldn't find someone to hold my hand through it(Original post by Ryan_94)

. I've been to a couple of concerts alone, and I'm even going to a festival alone tomorrow. I'm a loner anyway so this is fine for me. If you're just there to watch a show and listen to music, then you don't really need to do it with friends. Go for it OP!

Re: Going to a gig on my own?One last thing you could do before going on your own is writing a facebook status saying 'Anyone fancy going to see Hopsin on XYZ date?' with a youtube video of his biggest song attatched.(Original post by JLXP)

I've been to gigs alone and with people before, and though I can say that I definitely prefer the latter, there's nothing wrong with going on your own.
I went to see one of my favourite bands twice on my own and just ended up chatting with people in the queue or at the bar and then ended up meeting the band both times
So sometimes it's good to chat to people in the queue with you, might be awkward at first but I've made really good friends from gigs. So as long as you really love the artist and enjoy the music, there's no reason why you shouldn't go on your own. -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?I'll try that, it's annoying i don't really have any 'best friends'(Original post by Luxray)

how would come regardless. I'll give that a whirl and see what happens

Re: Going to a gig on my own? That's awesome! Yeah i've been separated from my group several times and met some cool people, i've just always thought it'd be quite a long night if you've not got anyone to talk about the gig with before/after.(Original post by vickie89)

That's awesome, would be cool to meet some friends that had an interest in the same low key artist!
Really? awesome, i guess i should go for it!(Original post by CherryCherryBoomBoom)

I've stupidly missed loads of great gigs because my friends never want to come with me / don't have the money, which always sucks. I suppose once i get my first gig on my own out of the way, i'm sure i won't have any worries about future gigs. Thanks! -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?
I don't know how, but I knew straight away from the first post that this would be Hopsin. He's excellent!
There's nothing wrong with going by yourself provided you've sorted stuff out such as travel. Besides, it's always difficult to get friends to go with you to a gig, so you might prefer to go yourself and enjoy it by yourself. I'm going through a similar problem - I want to see Ren Harvieu in Liverpool in October but none of my friends have heard of her so I might just go by myself. -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?If only you lived in Manchester! You could have joined me to see Hopsin, and i would have accompanied you to see Ren Harvieu! win/win!(Original post by alexlduffy)

Yeah travels not too much of a problem, i suppose it's an element of 'safety in numbers' :P -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?I'm going to a gig there on November 18th, I don't mind going to Manchester for a gig but it's just awkward getting home really :/ It's possible but awkward. Sounds like a good trade though!(Original post by JLXP)

The safety in numbers thing is a good point too! -

Yeah Manchester does get pretty good gigs, but the last train back to Liverpool isn't that late, is it? -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?Actually, it's The Band Perry, but good guess!(Original post by JLXP)

Manchester gets a lot of better gigs than Liverpool does, and loads of artists I like go to Manchester and skip Liverpool, like Paloma Faith. Even Sheffield's getting better gigs (mainly because Alice Cooper's going there). The last train back is usually 11:30pm, but I've only been to one gig in Manchester and I had to leave about a quarter of the way through the main performer's set because it was getting late and we had no other way of getting home. -
Re: Going to a gig on my own?Ah i'm going to see Feeder on the 18th, coincidence!(Original post by alexlduffy)

I've seen Alice cooper live twice, he's so awesome! It's a shame he's not coming to Manchster again this time round, but he skipped all the other uk dates last year, so perhaps he is just compensating! He's always an amazing gig.
+ah that's annoying, i know the feeling! Fortunately i can rely on the bus
