Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?
Well I was always atheist originally, and it was after deep thought and contemplation that I became a theist, though not 100% affiliating myself with any religion in particular. Having said that, I do think Jesus was the son of God, therefore I guess I'd be considered a Christian.

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?Hello Nacho King,(Original post by Nacho King)
Okay before you go can you tell me, do you believe in Unicorns, and why.
Well, I do believe in unicorn goats, because they are so cute! The one horn instead of two is caused by a genetic issue or manipulation by scientists, but still...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBesVO_3iQk
It is possible though not as likely, that there were unicorn horses... goats do tend to have horns whereas horses don't.
Since so many kinds of animals go extinct, it's hard to know unless a body was preserved and found... and as far as I know, no unicorn horse body has been found. However, it would be a wow moment if in the future, a unicorn horse could be genetically engineered, wouldn't it? (However, such work doubtless would involve experimentation on animals, and pain caused to animals just to make a genetic wonder is not something that I believe is good to do.)
I have to go now, but it has been an interesting discussion.
Peace and may you have a wonderful weekend!Last edited by Christianlady; 15-06-2012 at 18:41. -

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?Firstly, why are you so sure it doesn't exist?(Original post by Nacho King)
Your going to be so disapointed when you die and realise heaven doesn't exist, oh wait you won't even know, youll be dead.
Secondly, are you incapable of basic grammar?
1) "You're", not "your"
2) "Disappointed", not "disapointed"
3) Incorrect use of commas
4) "You'll" not "youll" -
Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?
Hey Nacho King,
I'm a born-again christian because i have "critically assessed" my faith in God and find it to be completely plausible. Last year i decided that i didn't believe and everything feel apart. I now know that without God i am nothing and i need Him in my life.
Your thinking of things as a human, God is beyond all our understand. Fair enough that you don't believe, but don't try and take away other peoples faith because its our faith that gets us through life.Last edited by Pixie A; 15-06-2012 at 18:43. -

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?I dunno, I seem to be going fine on those fronts without any sort of higher power. I know what morals are because it's fairly easy to see right from wrong in most situations, again without a God. Except of course, it is a religion.(Original post by Pixie A)

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?I disagree, alot of what is in the bible is not easy to believe and may by contradictry. I have questioned my beliefs, and always get the same answer - just have faith. Just because religion is not proven, it doesn't mean it's incorrect. Like the adam and eve story is not an actual account, but a symbolic story to get the message across about greed. You just have to have faith.(Original post by Nacho King)
It is my belief that most religious people are still believers because they have never questioned their beliefs.
Most people only get a one sided opinion, what the Bible/Qu'ran etc. says, what their priest tells them, peer pressure from others. We can see most people don't question their beliefs because a large percentage of people are the same religion as they were born into and what their parents were and have never looked at any others.
Why not critically assess your religion, use logic and common sense to see if stories sound plausable (maybe start with Noah's Ark), watch youtube videos from athiests and see what they have to say etc.
There is nothing to lose, only something to gain. Why dedicate your whole life to something without even questioning it? Thats dumb.
So religious believers, have you ever strongly researched and evaluated your faith? I don't mean go through the Bible with a Bible guide, I mean look at what it says critically and without your emotional head on and see if it still sounds true.
I've thought of a good example, the Tower of Babel is in the book of Genesis, where apparently people attempted to build a tower to reach heaven and God destroyed it as it was a threat to him and then scattered everyone around the world and gave them different languages so they wouldn't be able to build another tower.
A logical person would say that this story is never going to be real because humans would never be able to build a tower to reach heaven because:
a) they wouldn't have the metal structures etc. to build a stable tower miles high, think of skyscrappers today,
b) planes fly 30,000ft in the air and they haven't been stopped by God and we haven't found heaven, military spy planes fly even further, space rockets even go out of our atmosphere,
c) how would they cope with the lack of oxygen without specialist equipment when that high up
d) we know whats outside our solar system and we still haven't found heaven, so how tall was this tower to be a threat to God.
See how stupid and unreasonable that story sounds now. -
Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?I'm sure it doesn't exist by using reason, common sense, critical thinking, logical and the most possible outcome. If you were 99.9% sure something didn't exist and 0.1% not, you wouldn't believe in it would you.(Original post by Mazzini)

Also I know how to use grammer, I was rushing to get it posted and was more concerned about getting the message out. Maybe you should spend more time analysing your stupid religion rather than looking at grammer, or is that one of the criteria for getting into heaven nowadays. -
Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?Okay I'm athiest am I have all of these. Athiests can be more moral than Chrisitans because Athiests decide to be good for benefit of mankind, not for the promise of heaven and the fear of hell.(Original post by Pixie A)

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?Dude, these stories are symbolic, not literal. They are used to teach and get messages across. You do not know enough about religion to think these are literal stories. I think you should logically asess your knowledge of Christianity. :P(Original post by Nacho King)

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?Thats dumb. Faith is a cover up for all the crap the religion teaches, having faith lets you ignore all evidence against the religion, all contradictions etc. Its a tool by religion to stop you becoming athiest. Also why don't you start worhiping the book of aesop's fables if you like moral stories.(Original post by BusheSCFC)

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?
What do you base your choices of good and evil on though? Because without God it seems as though moral judgement is subjective to whatever the person decides is right or wrong? Was the sense of right or wrong something that evolved in human beings as well. I believe our sense of right or wrong has been with us ever since our separation from God because of sin and God clearly shows us what right and wrong is. What is your definition of a religion by the way?

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths? No I don't think you even slightly understand faith. I have no clue why i believe in God i just do, it's just a feeling, i don't choose to. I feel he is real, and keep my faith. Your just too easily persuaded by arguments of science because they are more beilievable than a book made 2000 years ago.(Original post by Nacho King)

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?
I fell fowel of my questioning of my faith. I was brought up a strict Roman Catholic and belived in God, would pray I did everything right then when I was 14 I underwent life saving surgery, which resulted ina year in hospital, i contracted glandular fever which developed into M.E which resulted in 3 years in bed, off school, constant bullying when ireturned to school, 2 friends died of cancer both under 18. I knew god was there to 'test us' but my test never seemed to end, i also didnt understand how he could take a life of 2 young people yet let murders, rapists, pedophiles live and get away with their crimes.
Ive been a massive atheist since i was 17 -
Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?Yeah well there is far more reasons why religion is bull, this is one part of it. How come so many people on deathrow are chrisitian maybe because they have nothing to live for so make up God, so many deathbed conversions because people are scared of death, how come prayer never works, good things happen to people and its god, bad things and it must be the devil etc. The list goes on.(Original post by BusheSCFC)

Religion is constructed for people to believe in it, using faith to discount all evidence against it, using heaven to entice people to join and hell to scare them into following. -
Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths? There is no test from God, it is just chance, with so many people in the world, some will die young, bad things will happen to good people, good things to bad people. The world is just a numbers game, but most people want to give a reason to things.(Original post by SillyMilly)

Re: Religious people, do you ever strongly consider your faiths?that's a generalization of Christians. You can't really tell what motivates a person, for me it's the love of Christ. I'm not going to pretend that i'm perfect or self righteous but i don't do things out of the fear of hell or the promise of heaven. I do it because of the love of God and to be close to him, going to heaven is just the cherry on the cake(Original post by Nacho King)
