Female 5"9.....8 stone, size 6. Too skinny?
    Im 5"9 (.5 actually lol ) I weight 8 stone, well 7 st 10 today, but usually 8 st.

Im 32C-22-32. Is this too thin? I am recovering from an Eating disorder so I think I maybe have a warped perception of what is thin, what is fat and what is neither/what is healthy.

I would be interested in hearing from other 5"9 ladies of your weight. I need to decide on a target weight I will be comfortable with and not panic the second I hit it, and lose it all again.

Oh and btw this is not a fishing thread. There is NOTHING attractive about having your head over the toilet every time you eat. I purged after every time I ate for 3 years. I havent purged for 2 weeks 5 days....the longest break in 3 years. Im proud of that, not being uber thin....I associate it with bad / painful times of loss.

So genuine answers please, this has been ...and still is a bit of a battle for me...but I am so proud i have made progress in 5 months of treatment. I dont care if that sounds big headed....at one time I wanted to die, now Im so grateful Im alive...and only hope I havent damaged my body, Im sure neither my father or grandfather would have wanted this to happen after they had gone...God bless them both xxx

If you've had treatment for an eating disorder, surely you must know the answer. If not, there are height/weight charts which will tell you definitively - they're easy to find on Google images.

I'm really not sure that having a lot of responses telling you that you are underweight/thin is going to help you at all. You need to speak to someone professional. Well done with your progress so far, I hope you get better.

    No I understand your point.

Some people with EDs even until the later stages of recovery do a little YAY in their head at being told their too thin,

I had a serious health scare recently, so i can safely its knocked it out of me. I guess IM just scared of not knowing when to stop and going too far the other way :p:

its fairly underweight. If aiming for weights that are to much higher than what you are scares you why not just set yourself small targets and then reassess when you reach them that way at no point are you aiming for much higher than you currently are.

It is underweight - also if you are usually 8 stone and are now 7 stone 10 then you have lost 4lb :erm: you should try to gain some instead.

I'm 5"7, and at 9.1 stone, my doctor told me that I am just about at the minimum weight I can be at to be considered a normal weight for my height. So yes, I would say that you probably are quite underweight, but that's okay, you can change that. As the poster above me said, just set yourself small targets. Seriously, congratulations on the progress you've made so far, I know that must have been a challenge for you. I wish you the absolute best of luck with the rest of your recovery.

well your quite underweight, I am 3 years into recovery from anorexia. I am 5 ft 7 and weigh 8.5 - 9 stone and my doctors are still bugging me to gain weight.

The main thing that determines if you are back to a healthy weight is if your periods return. And then your supposed to be a couple of kg more than that. Hope that makes sense.

Also well done for coming so far. I understand what it feels like to have got out of the purging cycle- its such a relief! Good luck!

I'm 5'7" and 9 and a half stone and I couldn't afford to lose much weight, but people have different frames. Try getting up to 8 and a half and then 9, and see how it feels.

Im thinking then the consensus seems to be between 9 st and 9 and a half.

So im gunning for 9 st5 lbs as a minimum

It is so damn hard to get out of it. I did it back in January, for 3 weeks...and then for some stupid reason I thought "once wont hurt" IDIOT.

Then got stuck in it again.

And yeh its a bit of a mystery 4lb weight loss in 2 weeks because im eating 1,400 cals. I know thats low compared to the GDA but my metabolism is quite ****ed atm....and i havent been to the gym :|

I can put it back on though, its for health and longevity so im all good.

And well done, I know you know how hard this is. Everyone I have told (not many) has been so sympathetic. However unless youve been through it you dont realise how horrigic it can be, as you lie out of shame and to protect the people who are worrying about you and also, at that point to protect the ED because a large part doesnt want to let go.

So well done, I dont know you but I am so proud of you. I hope you continue to chose health. I had a friend who recovered and then slipped back into it. I would rather my recovery was slow but sure and be rid of this for life.

I hope you continue to progress because you deserve to

I'm also recovering from an eating disorder and am 8st 4 at 5ft 8"

Be careful - setting rigid goals and pressures may just reiterate the eating disorder mindset. Often we have an all or nothing approach to things that we need to be mindful of. To answer your question, yes 8 stone will be unhealthy and too thin.

According to your BMI, about 9 stone is the minimum healthy BMI. However it's advised that it would benefit you to go to about 9st 10 to reduce the likelihood of a relapse and to repair the damage. These are just the facts - a guideline so that you can be reassured that you are in NO way to big and will not be too big even if you put on 1 stone or even 2 stone in weight.

Personally i'm having a bit of a rest from gaining right now to get accustomed to my new slightly higher weight (but I will never loose what i've gained), because going in stages is what works for me. Well done for turning things around x

The "optimal" BMI is apparently 22.7. So for someone of 5'9, the 'best' weight for you to be at is around 11 stone...but you might feel uncomfortable with that so I'd say aim for between 9/10 stone.

I like you have been through about 6 years of heartbreak, loss and difficulties and since then I have always had problems maintaining my weight. I have never been officially diagnosed with an eating disorder (although one kind GP did think I needed to be sectioned because I had 'warped views' of food [long story, basically I told him I liked eating healthy foods and not much junk because it helped me feel better], I also have fibromyalgia so a healthy diet can help hugely) I also don't think I have an eating disorder, I know that when I feel down or I'm in pain or suffer any kind of heartbreak my food intake decreases, not because I want to be thin but because I feel unwell.

I think one of the worst things someone has ever done to me is to tell me I have be be 'X stone' by 'X time', you cannot plan like that. I am 5'6" and was about 8st, although I'd imagine after a long term relationship breakup on Monday that I am nearer 7st now. I am very 'lightly made' and my 'ideal weight' according to BMI is something like 9st which for me would be HUGE. So take ideal weights with a pinch of salt. Make sure you are eating enough and eating healthily so that you are feeling well in yourself. Continue your treatments and set goals like 'I want to gain 4lbs', not 'I want to reach 8st 8lbs by July'. It is the same as someone overweight saying 'I want to lose 2st by August', they quite probably won't be able to, and you are much more likely to be setting yourself up to fail and therefore feeling disappointed. Set small targets and enjoy achieving them in your new self!

Also if you enjoy it join a gym or sports club or activity, the increased activity will make you more hungry and probably more hungry for high energy foods. Although be careful you don't go the other way and do too much. SMALL TARGETS!

You sound like you are well on your way, I wish you luck and I can completely empathise with your situation.
