London in Sept (before i start in my final year)
    Hey guys,

Right im writing on here as i have hunted and read read read and read again about people and their experiences on traveling alone and still something is stopping me even when im reading all of the positive stuff on this site and others.

Basically in Oct, i start in my final year of my counselling and education degree in Swansea. In April of this year i lost my mother to cancer (2 months ago) and since have needed to get away from Swansea because i have not had much me time in the last 2 years due to caring for my mam.

The reason im creating this thread is that i went to London with a friend and hated it because they were so grump so i have booked to stay in London by myself for 3 nights end of September. Now, im 25 and have travelled to London solo in the past for training in previous jobs, so the travelling is not the issue, nor is the walking around by myself part its the whole dining out experience.

Basically has anyone on here stayed anywhere on their own including London, and how did they find dining out alone etc?

need some advice i know i have alot of time to worry, but i have heard London is a very friendly place and not to be worried as people are there alone all the time.

    help anyone? x

Pretty much what you say at the end there about London being friendly (surprisingly so) and people doing things alone is fairly accurate. I've been up to London a fair few times on my own and once I got over my own sense of awkwardness about dining alone it's absolutely fine. No-one else seems to bat an eyelid - you just need to get over the idea that you look weird yourself.

I have stayed many, many places on my own, London included. You'll be fine. It's not like little old Swansea where the sight of someone dining alone would have people running to the local paper. People in London are a little more 'adventurous'. No one will bat an eyelid. You're only going for 3 days, enjoy it. Walk around, see the sights, check out the museums and enjoy the food!

Exactly! Plenty of people will be eating alone too and you could always ask for a seat in the corner if you do feel self-conscious. No need to though - you'll be fine

Eating alone in big cities is very common! Trust me as a Londoner, nobody will even notice, unless you order something that looks amazing and we want to try it! If you take a notebook and put it on your table they might think you are a restaurant reviewer and give you something for free, its happened to me before.
