    Golf: The US Open

    1st day of action today.

Tiger's set himself nicely, can't help but think he will get stronger as the tournament progresses with the form he's on.
Micheal Thompson whoever the hell he is has had the round of his life shooting -4. Doubt he will hold it come the weekend mind.

So far its a pretty American dominated leader board, not a good showing from the europeans at all. Hopefully that will change, early days.

    Thoughts?

The holy trinity are making it look like hard work. I don't think I have seen Donald on the fairway yet.

I thought tiger was a little unlucky today, he was very good and ver measured in his approach. If he carries it on through the weekend I can't see anyone staying with him, just wish he would go back to his old trusted scotty would feel a lot more comfortable watching him put.

I am loving that short par 4 like some at my local club you can drive em and walk off with a 2 or cock it up and end up with 6 good fun.

And those first 6 holes look evil.

Haven't had chance to see the course properly yet but seems tough form what i've seen so far. The 1st hole being the most difficult i think will have some impact on the front 9 for a lot of players. Mickelson already had a bad start which got worse.

Good chip from Westy there, hoping he can claw a shot back on the last 2 holes to keep in good stead.
Justin Rose looking strong so far, fancy him to do well.

Justin rose isn't a bad shout actually would be nice to see any Brit do well really or tiger, just so people get off his back!!

Some crappy Nike blade. He went to a mallet for a little while after all the problems he had the went back to a blade just not a scotty Cameron.

I've had my scotty for 7 years now don't know why anyone would use anything else :P

I can't watch this on tv, so i've had to rely on the us open golf app with video highlights and radio coverage to get me through. Dissapointed that live coverage on this app is only availabe in America I might have to see if i can watch it online somewhere.
From what i've seen from the highlights Woods has been putting well - especially that long putt on the 5th! Yeah - shaky start from both Bubba & Phil.
I'm just amazed at that 14 year old kid Andy Zhang; the youngest ever us open player- what an achievement.
Looking forward to seeing what Donald and Westwood can do today; wouldn't mind seeing either one of them (or Tiger of course) winning this.

Edit: Didn't realise Donald was 9 over!! Last time i checked he was only 1 over...

lol you really are struggling with the coverage, that must of been like the first hole :P

Luke just drove the ball terribly and you just can't do that in a US open the rough is so penal. For lee it was just the same old story not necessarily terrible tee to green but he must do better at that also just so many putts missed its so frustrating when you watch him.

If tiger puts in a similar performance today I just can't see anyone keeping up with him.

Haha, i know :/ i'm making it my aim to find a site where i can watch it live.
Disappointed with Donald - i thought after Wentworth he'd be one of the contenders. Nice to see Rose, McDowell and Poulter near the top of the leaderboard though. And great play from Tiger - nice to see him back on form; hope to see some great golf playing fron him this weekend.

I'm sorry but the difference between Westwood's long game and short game is comical. Not just putting, even when he pitches around the green you can see his knees wobble and bend.

Other than that, what are everyone's thoughts? I reckon David Toms is going to be the one to stick around until the end... Don't know if he'll win though. I'll predict that Tiger will make a couple of birdies on 16 and 17 tomorrow to win.

16 might be a tough ask 17 deffo. He needs to keep his head up though getting unlucky at the moment again playing an incredibly controlled game just needs the course to cut him some slack.

I really want Westwood to win won of these majors soon as he deserves it for his consistency although his putting often lets him down.

I think they're putting the tees up so it'll only play about 560 tomorrow. But you're right, he needs to stem this bleeding!

So kind of him to duly oblige! That birdie was insane... First the approach, then the putt.

Nike Method 001, he used it at St Andrews in 2010, then rotated with his Scotty Cameron, a Nike Method 003 and this.
