Re: Golf: The US OpenI think he might have peaked too soon in the build up to be honest. Great at Memorial (don't know what he was like last week, I assume good), good at the start and the wheels have come off. It's hard to play great golf for 3 straight weeks... But I still expected him to post 67/8 today!(Original post by danny111)
Is Tiger's career over?
This guy has not won a major in 4 years, after still being in contention day 3 he goes +6 in 6. I think he lost it. -
Re: Golf: The US OpenSo after +6 you expect him to go -10????(Original post by NaaderBajwa)

Re: Golf: The US OpenNo no, that's what I was expecting before the round. After 6 it was a case of how high he could go(Original post by danny111)

Re: Golf: The US Openyou said "still 67/68"?(Original post by NaaderBajwa)

Re: Golf: The US OpenYes, but I said I 'expected' him to do that, which would suggest that I meant prior to what happened over the first 6 holes. Regardless, I really wanted McDowell to make that putt!(Original post by danny111)
you said "still 67/68"? -
Agreed. The fact that not a single player finished level par shows that the course was just too tough!(Original post by Gary Barlow)
Probably the most uninspiring major i've watched in a while. The USGA really need to stop pratting around making the golf courses impossible.

Re: Golf: The US OpenI don't know if I agree... I love seeing top players struggle like us(Original post by magdaplaysbass)

Joking aside, I think it's good when par means something, and tournaments don't just turn into putting contests. I don't think there were any holes where you could say 'that's just impossible to play' (unlike the 17th at Pebble Beach a couple of years ago).
I also found it interesting to watch, until everyone started making bogies. I was hoping Els would win! -
Re: Golf: The US Open
There seemed like no chance for recovery when players went off course. Thats my favourite aspect of watching profesional golf is how they can pull of ludicrous shots to save par when they need to. Bubba Watson shot to the green in the play off of the masters sums it up best.
Whenever anyone missed a fairway or green they were lucky to make bogey. Don't get me wrong playing consistent golf is the most difficult thing to do, but it can make for dull viewing.
Also there was no real drama, McDowell's missed putt to take it to the play off just gave me a sense of 'mehh' after it was all over. -
Re: Golf: The US OpenI would also agree with that (contradicting my first statemet(Original post by Gary Barlow)

). It can be hard to watch sometimes. For excitement alone, nothing beats the Masters. 2011 was insane! The problem with this US Open was that it was such a tight course there was no room to play with, even if you got a good lie.
I.e. We saw some great recovery shots at Torrey Pines in 2008, but it was easier there because there weren't thousands of trees lining the fairways. So I think the problem this week was the course, not necessarily the set up (though of course that made it tougher). -
Re: Golf: The US OpenI agree in the sense that the course needs to be challenging; but for no player to finish level par makes me think they went too far. That's why I love watching the Masters, because you get to see lots of birdies/eagles etc. Although Watney did get an albatross...!!(Original post by NaaderBajwa)
