    Police caution - help?
I smashed some glass by kicking it in at a kebab shop and police have tracked me down by my number plate on car. Cut long story short- suffer from sprouts of low times, got really worked up with some people and just kicked the door. It was stupid, I'm embarrassed. Will never let me go to that place again. Completely out of character.

Upset by it all I went home (away from uni) to take some time away from it all and guess police saw this as running away. I was honestly planning on going in and resolving issue when I got back. Officer in area came round last night and explained everything- saw I was a good kid and asked that when I got back to Uni I need to pop in and explain things. I phoned the area police and they said the Kebab shop is happy to take cost of fixes, an apology and hopefully not prosecute. Does that mean I still get a caution? I worried because I'm a dental student and obviously don't want to let a moment of madness mess up my future. Exam next week and feeling so crap. ahh! Please help. I realise I was stupid so don't have to tell me that. Thanks

    I'm not 100% sure.

But will keep myself updated within the thread to see what happens. I believe if you don't go to court, it wont go on your record.

a caution does go on your record. I just hope it all works out. I'm hoping this sort of offence will be overlooked.

If the kebab shop is happy to take the cost of fixes and not prosecute then no, you will not have a warning. A proper warning requires you to be placed on bail for a period of time and then return to the station to be 'charged' (with the warning). The event will probably stay on the police's records/radar but that is of no worry to you unless you plan on offending again in the future. As far as employers/university anything like that, they will never be any the wiser, as you were never properly charged.

He has yet to get a caution, or he is unsure to whether he got one.

If I were you OP, ring the local police station and investigate.

Yeah, as long as you didn't get taken to the station and booked in at custody I do not believe that it'll be on your record. But yeah, it's best if you check with the police as I'm not 100% sure on this.

Even if you do get a caution, the first caution is considered spent when issued, so you don't get a criminal record that can pop up later in CRB checks.

a caution doesnt mean anything really.

    why you are worrying?

its not a conviction and you've not been charged of anything either.

yeah exactly, this will always be on the police records and if your name is fed through the system, this will come back.

but, thats no problem unless you do a similar offence.

I'm not quite sure why I just laughed as hard as I did, I'm just confused and amused.

Are "sprouts of low times" a thing?

I think you'll be OK OP, you seem like a good guy really.
