    Advice about Language B?
    Hi everyone.

I'm starting my new school soon and thinking about taking Spanish..SL

I've studied Spanish for about a year (10 months with school holidays and stuff)

And then I checked the ibo website and they said that you should have studied it for 2 years to take it at SL.
But then I'm not exactly a beginner to do it at ab initio..?

Obviously I haven't learnt all the tenses or anything, only future and present, not past. So I am a little worried I won't be up to scratch with the rest of my class.. Or will I?

Also, is Spanish ab initio at a lower level the SL (like math studies) or are they at the same level?

    Thank y'all!!

If you can, I would take ab initio because the class would have done the past tense and maybe even some exams in it. Ab intio is designed to teach you from a basic level and it is at a lower level than SL. If you feel that you are good at Spanish and will pick up the tenses quickly and want to have a higher level of Spanish at the end of the diploma, go for Spanish SL but if you don't want so much hard work, bearing in mind that you will have 5 other subjects, go for ab initio. If possible, speak to the spanish department at your school to see what they advise.

Thank you! Yes I think I will talk to them about it and see what they suggest.

Do you know if universities look at you less if you have a language at ab initio?

Unless you apply to study that language at university, it doesn't matter - ab initio and B is the same amount of work, just different starting levels after all.
