Remember that in the 60 marker, you only get 10 marks for language, form and structure and 20 for comparisons and 20 for context. It's really hard, but whilst language is important to talk about, remember not to concentrate toooo heavily on it, 'cause they're assessing you on that mostly in unseen.

Well, if there's any archaic language/lots of references to things that today we would have to look up, you can maybe comment on how that may make it less effective? Talk about the audience it may have been intended for at the time (e.g. if it's old, probably the wealthy/educated) and what they would have made on it (is there anything in it that may have shocked them?)
    Aha! True that..
Makes sense now. Thanks a ton!
Im still freaking out though..I can't get my head around notes..because they're a jumble and I know everything in my head, but I just cant put it all down. Lol

How you preparing for the paper?

    I'm bricking it...

Not sure if im doing a different spec though? Identification of self, Great Expectations, Wife of Bath and Billy Collins??

Different values/traditions? More liberal, open minded perhaps? Not really any other way other than assess the techniques in light of different interpretations, and therefore meaning, shaped by changing values.

In all of my mocks, I've managed to shoe horn in the classic "As a reader in 2012, we tend to advocate Pacifism rather than conflict"

    Hey guys
Im a little confussed on 1 aspect of AO4: examine the significance of the contexual overarching framework within which they as readers can respond therefore showing a developed sense on what is meant to read critically

    What does this mean???????
    Thanks for any advice given

I'm doing the same books except instead of Billy Collins I studied Life of Pi. For the Wife of Bath do you know if you get penalised for what translation you use of the prologue and tale?

    The context of the novel..
The time period the novel was written in, details about the authors, extras on the novel, like how its based on something real or perhaps allusions to event in history etc etc..basically reading around the novel and how it influences you as a reader..
these observation will allow to touch the A04 band..

    Hope that helped.

Don't worry, just relax! It will come to you in the exam. I'm gonna do some unseen practice today, then tomorrow will just be going over notes and making a few plans for 60 markers.

Any notes on identification of self in Dickens?? Discussion should help... I feel comfortable with the unseen as it's blaggable but the main part... not so much...

Question to everybody regardless of what texts your doing.

When your remembering key passages and quotes which your going to analyse and compare in the exam, do you know the line numbers off by heart, so you can use them in exams?

My teacher keeps on banging on about doing that, I can remember some but not all of them. I've seen exemplars which have scored full marks yet not one of them gives line numbers/page references?

Honestly I haven't had enough time to find quotes and THAT organized so Im mostly going to try and remember ones that affected me ..:P..:/

I don't think page number is important. Most exemplars seem to allow candidates to get away with it. :O

Yup - As I said, I haven't seen any exemplars in the examiner reports with page numbers, just the quote itself.

Wow, only a day and a bit to go, how is everybody feeling?

sweating one out just thinking about it. No idea how to structure the answer and although I reread Great Expectations twice and familiarized myself with some poetry, haven't tackled Wife of Bath and not sure how to really structure myu answer...

You need to have an account to see exemplar.. cheers edexcel

If you just go on this page and check out the examiner reports (all of them can be accessed without an account apart from Jan 2012 - there should be examples for you to see)

    Hey everybody.
I absolutely despise my third text (Billy Collins), and would much rather focus on 2 novels, and it does say in the question that you should use at least 2 texts. How bad would it be to do 2 texts instead of 3?

    Cheers guys, and good luck!

I'm doing war, not identification of self! Sorry! Good luck though, I'm sure you'll do fine. Context must be pretty good for Dickens?

I was told not to page number anything in the exam because it wastes time!

looking at the examiner reports it seems almost all candidates do war, and their feedback is always geared toward it.

I don't love Collins either, but he's accessible and in many ways relatable to Pip
