BA ACCOUNTANCY vs BA ACCOUNTING & FINANCE
I start my access to business course in September and have to have my UCAS app ready for November.

I wanted to become an ACCA Accountant can anyone tell me the difference between studying BA ACCOUNTANCY and BA ACCOUNTING & FINANCE. Which would be better.

    Thanks
    Bee

    Hi Bee,

To start with you should be aiming to be ACA qualified if possible because it is more highly valued as it shows you have experience which is essential!
Next, the difference between the courses is that the Accountancy & Finance course will be more mathematically demanding as it closely relates to a variety of areas in Economics (but you should check the courses as individual Uni's as they vary). If you are looking to be an accountant as I am, then you should look into applying for a sponsorship by one of the big 4 companies. It will set you up for life as you get a guaranteed job which large financial prospects.

any other questions just post a reply,

One of my housemates graduated with accounting and finance last year, went straight into a job and has taken a few of the aca exams this year. He was able to miss out a few because of his degree. From what I gathered, he had more choice in the finance/economics related modules, not so much the accounting ones. Also, I get the feeling accounting and finance is a more useful degree as it covers more but still gives you the accounting accreditation needed to skip future exams.

    hi bee,

well I am going to start the sponsorship next ear so I only have a rough idea of what it involves. From my knowledge, my specific sponsorship is this:

year1: normal uni year like every other student
year2+3:normal uni student life except I will spend 3 months working for my company and only pay 80% of the fees as well as doing professional exams along side my uni exams.
year 4: spend about 6 months working and once I have a minimum 2.1 in my degree I will begin working as a trainee accountant.
Post uni: I then spend 2 years training to be fully ACA qualified and can then stay with the company or leave.

To get them just apply to the uni's where the firms have them via ucas or though their websites. I believe all the big 4 have them and if u don't get one it dosent matter, my friend was rejected from 3 but got his final application!

    anymore questions just post them,
