    alternative to rows/cleans
    Running SS.

Technique is terrible on both cleans suggested by SS and rows suggested by SL. My one arm rows arent much better either.

Is there an alternative pulling exercise to hit the lats well? Good assistance work to add in? Worried about getting an imbalance or two with too much pushing and not enough pulling.

Looked at a lot of videos and worked on form but the bent over rows just don't get better and cleans are too advance for me atm

    Maybe the seated row?

How can your technique be "terrible" on barbell rows?

why can't you work on technique? I refuse to believe anyone can't learn to do a row. Ask the staff at your gym for help

Arms dont come back together, arc of the bar is sloppy, can't squeeze my lats at the top, struggle to keep correct posture etc

errr what about chinups or pullups? I never got on with rows, and I genuinely think cleans are too technical for beginners (if you're doing em properly that is)

I try and add 3 sets of chins to failure but often find it a struggle after the big compounds. May add pull ups, reckon they're a sufficient substitute for rows tho?

The bb row isn't that complicated. If you can do a good squat and deadlift, I don't see how rows are much of a technical challenge? Practice.

It's not that hard. I taught a friend with slight dyspraxia to power clean acceptably over a couple of sessions, using nothing more than the cues in the Starting Strength book.

Sounds like you have a mental block more than a physical one. Keep trying.

Just do powercleans and become a god amongst ants.

Also do pull-ups on top of it....then one day you can become like me.

I disagree, you're exaggerating like hell.

    Re: alternative to rows/cleans
Pull ups/chin ups/lat pulldowns/some sort of seated row might be viable alternatives, but your response to having poor technique should always be to improve your technique rather than abandoning an exercise. Cleans are a little trickier than the rest (although this isn't a reason not to do them) but not being able to do rows properly (if you can squat, bench and deadlift) sounds to me like an issue of being too lazy to sort them out. As always, drop the weight down a bit, focus on your technique. Rows aren't an exercise where exact technique is a big deal anyway.

    1. Use less weight so that you are able to use correct form.

    2. Work on your upper back flexibility and mobility.

Overhead cables are pretty fantastic. A million times better than the lat pulldown.

But as others have said. Just row. Pull ups. Chin ups.
