Religion in Britain in 50 years time
What will the religious landscape of Britain look like: politically and socially?
- Will the Church of England be separated from the state?
- Will Christian establishment have less political influence, such as seats in the Lords and influence over issues such as gay marriage as we see now?
- Will there be more atheists and less theists?
- What will Islam look like? Will Muslims become less or more pious? Will the tensions between Muslims and some sections of society disappear or deepen?
- Will there be more segregation on religious lines or more integration/cohesiveness?
Etc... -

Not exactly 50 years, but that's what those 'experts' think! -
Re: Religion in Britain in 50 years timeI see that statistic, along with West Antarctica ... is now home to a multitude of towns and conurbations, with a total population numbering in the millions which seems ridiculous to me. Another shocking surprise is the Manned exploration of the Saturnian system just before the 22nd century?(Original post by Dhaal_Chawal)

I don't really see that happening at all to be honest.
So although the statistics for religion look kind of reliable I'm not sure whether to trust this based on other predictions which look very far-fetched. Or is that what you meant by 'experts'?
Overall though I do think numbers of anti-religious people will increase as people seem to see it as almost foreign to them and so won't trust it, which in some ways is a shame.
I would like to know other people's opinion on it though

Re: Religion in Britain in 50 years time
- Will the Church of England be separated from the state?
Depends how they adapt and move with society, if they keep opposing big social issues that a large majority support there is every possibility they will be.
- Will Christian establishment have less political influence, such as seats in the Lords and influence over issues such as gay marriage as we see now?
Same as above really, depends if they stick to their guns on certain issues such as gay marriage which will gain more and more support as time goes on.
- Will there be more atheists and less theists?
Certainly looks that way.
- What will Islam look like? Will Muslims become less or more pious? Will the tensions between Muslims and some sections of society disappear or deepen?
Islam is an interesting one, there will probably be a split between Muslims who live in the west and wish to adapt and become more progressive with their views and those who live in the west that don't (can already see tensions on that front in many typically Islamic communities between those who wish to be "western" and those that wish to retain their conservative religious views)
- Will there be more segregation on religious lines or more integration/cohesiveness?
probably more, religion as a whole is on a downwards slope in the west in terms of the influence it holds and the validity it is seen to have. Although i don't think a belief in god will ever be viewed as a good reason to segregate someone the more silly beliefs like Adam and Eve and Noah's ark will probably be looked down on even more and the people who believe in them will probably face quite a bit of ridicule and contempt. -

- Will there be more segregation on religious lines or more integration/cohesiveness? There won't be much segregation along religious lines.

Re: Religion in Britain in 50 years timeThis would surely be the best thing since its insidious, indoctrinate and ugly conception. I welcome the day people realise how depraved religion is, and how it holds human beings back on so many levels. One only has to ask a follower of any religion simple questions on key topics to be given an answer that determines the fact you can not take them seriously. I welcome the day all religion is regarded for what it truly is, the mindless indoctrination of human beings, believing things that are as deluded as me thinking there is a Father Christmas and fairies in my garden.(Original post by Dirac Delta Function)

Re: Religion in Britain in 50 years time
Who knows? Probably will be less religious than today, with more atheists and around the same number of Christians, Muslims and Hindus due to immigration. I doubt the Church will ever seperate from the State (its links with the monarchy are too close), although hopefully it will have lost its guaranteed influence in the Lords.
I don't really see that happening at all to be honest.
