Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive.Worst dependent variable ever.(Original post by Skorzeny)
These 'studies' are *******s, they took an extremely small sample (40 female students) and rated them on attractiveness (beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and all that).
It means **** all. -
Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive.
There's a fair amount to back up the idea that mixed race individuals are more attractive. Being more successful, though, is a lot harder to establish. Even if you found that an arbitrarily selected group of mixed race individuals are more successful than a group of individuals of non-specific race, there are likely to be some pretty significant factors not related to race in play - I would not be surprised to find that mixed race individuals generally have more affluent, well-travelled and culturally aware parents, which is likely to contribute to them being better educated. I'd actually be pretty interested in seeing whether there's a correlation between wealth and/or levels of education and levels of social racial mixing in the UK - it seems like a pretty reasonable hypothesis. Of course, the more racially diverse social groups are the more likely there will be interracial relationships between people in these groups, and a greater proportion of children born to parents in these groups will be mixed race, so if racially diverse social groups are typically more wealthy and educated (and, as we know, parental success is a good predictor of a child's success, unfortunately) then that would explain mixed race people being more successful without it being anything genetic.

Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive. These articles are ridiculous!(Original post by @chante_Jos)
I'm incrediby insecure as a young black girl and when I read articles like :

It really doesn't help at all. I have mixed race siblings and I feel like they will do better in life then I will or they may have it a lot easier.
I'm not to sure maybe, maybe not ?
I just wanted to know what other people thought about it.
How do you feel comfortable in your own skin when you've got crazy speculations like this going about.

Be honest please.
Yes theres many mixed race people who are successful and attractive but on the other side of the spectrum theres black and white and asian people who are just as successful and attractive.
Also as far as attraction goes it really does depend on the individual. My friend loves Lewis Hamilton and thinks he gorgeous, I don't. I know some gorgeous mixed race people, and I know some not so gorgeous ones, same as I do black and white and asian people.
You've nothing to worry about. You are who YOU are, thats your identity. Everyones different. -
Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive.
Barack Obama, Halle Berry and Ryan Giggs didn't become successful because of their skin colour, they became successful because of the work they put in. I believe this is just a new stereotype the media wants to portray.
I've seen mixed race people that have less ambition than a monkey.
I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, how well you do in life is down to how hard you work.
In my opinion beauty is in the eye of the beholder but beauty can only get you so far in life. -
Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive.
Everyone is different. You can't compare yourself to anyone because there are simply so many variables which determines how someone turns out. We're all different. Besides, why base your self-esteem on an article anyway? Putting aside the fact that the studies described in the articles probably have serious methodological errors, they all have an agenda. I wouldn't trust those articles myself.

Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive.I certainly agree, it's quite a foolish rationalisation if you think about it.(Original post by lettucesoap)
The fact that people are still asking this kind of question is quite disheartening.. -
Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive.that must have been such an awful experience, I'm really sorry that you got treated that way.(Original post by Derek.)
When I came to school in England, chavs thought I was from Turkey or Pakistan so they called me paki -
Re: Are Mixed race people really more successful and attractive. That's just the media trying to make girls feel insecure so that they will buy more products and such. mixed raced people come from people who aren't mixed race - something beautiful can't come out of something ugly can it!(Original post by @chante_Jos)

You don't have to neg' rate me ! It's just a question.
there's no need to feel insecure (although it's understandable) everyone is different yanno! -
I wouldn't worry about these things, OP. Some so-called newspapers are forever printing so-called scientific studies on topics that have nothing to do with science, like mixed race people being more attractive or people whose name starts with a J having the best career prospects etc. because a sample of 50 people confirms that. It has nothing to do with science because those studies are rarely conducted properly, but even if they were, most trends don't dictate your life, they just give an indication of the likelihood of something (eg. if a study says that short people get promoted less than tall people, it doesn't mean every short person will lose out to a taller colleague, it just means the odds for the short person are ever so slightly lower). So don't worry, these articles don't actually mean anything.

People, its not that other races AREN'T successful, they are, but mixed race, lets talk black/white for instance, is so under-represented but find themselves as the top of world sport, politics etc. They only place there seems to be a lack of mixed race people are top universities, unfortunately.
