A WOMAN became “pregnant” with 12 baby squid after eating calamari, a science report claims.

The 63-year-old from South Korea had her mouth flooded with sperm after taking a bite of the popular dish, which had been parboiled.

Hideous “bug-like” organisms, later identified as squid spermatophores, then burrowed into her gums, tongue and cheek from where they were later removed.

Spermatophores have ejaculatory apparatus with which they forcefully expel sperm.

The stomach-churning story features in a scientific paper from the National Centre for Biotechnology Information in Maryland, US.

The paper says : “The woman did not swallow the portion, but spat it out immediately. She complained of a pricking and foreign-body sensation in the oral cavity.

“Twelve small, white spindle-shaped, bug-like organisms stuck in the mucous membrane of the tongue, cheek, and gums were completely removed, along with the affected mucosa.

“On the basis of their morphology and the presence of the sperm bag, the foreign bodies were identified as squid spermatophores.”

A similar case of squid insemination was reported last December, when a woman in Japan had eaten raw seafood.

Doctors reported that sperm bags of the squid had thrust themselves into the roof of the lady's mouth.

Cases such as these occur more commonly in the Far East where the internal organs of seafood are often NOT removed before serving.
